Anyone know why CS went to hell after I got steam?

I used to be able to play CS in huge servers with no problems. Ever since I went over to steam my pings just went to hell. I lag out with a 4000 ping, and get the CL_FlushEntityPacket all the time. I tried reinstalling steam, no luck, I modified some of my settings according to what some sites I saw on lag issues with no luck.
Anyone know why I would have this problem only after going to steam?

The one fix I know that works 100% of the time is: uninstall steam.

I would but I lost my half-life CD key, and don't feel like buying another copy. This would be my 3rd one. I need to write the key on my monitor or somthing.

Hmm, I installed steam a week ago and can play both... Odd, did you seperate the folders when it asked? That might be why. Otherwise, i have no clue..

Now somtheing weird is going on.
I unistalled steam, deleted all its folder, opend half life. And guess what came up, Steam?
How do I still have it after I unistalled it, somethings messed up

Ok, I just found 2 more instances of it installed in differant folders on differant hard drives. I deleted everything related to it, besides the actually half life. I'm downloading 1.5 now, hopefully that will install alright and everything will be good. Although I cannot play half life anymore, so i'm thinking I may need to reinstall everything

Steam is horrible for one.

Also what are your specs on your computer? When running Steam and CS at the same time it will use up more RAM and processing. Some computers that could run CS fine used up all their computer, but adding one more process to the mix and it can't handle it so you get lag due to your computer trying to play catch up. That and Steam is horrible. Did I mention Steam is horrible? I know I said steam is horrible. Ill just say it one more time for goodness sake: STEAM SUCKS!

Oh yeah if you really wanna get rid of steam your gonna need an antivirus program...because Steam is exactly that. Really think about it. You try to get rid of a virus and sometimes its still there, Steam messes up everything on your computer, Steam=virus. You might wanna join up with GAS(Gamers Against Steam)*just made it up*

If you are saying you are using a CD key that you have lost...thenI can tell you how to get it.

1) Go to run program
2) Type in regedit
3) Search around till you find sierra/halflife
4) Somewhere in there will be hlkey or hlcdkey
5) Click on it and it will display and allow you to edit the current cd key.

i don't see how you can possibly say steam sucks. They're trying harder and harder to stop cheaters, They made the game a lot smoother, and it did I mention that they're trying VERY HARD to STOP hackers. Steam doesn't suck, so stop whining.

did u actually just say they made it smoother? i was able to play single player half life and cs and team fotress with no lag, on cs like a consistent ping of 60-70 on this one server. i install steam, my graphics are like crappier, which didnt happen b4...i have a ping of like 170-160 in the same server...they ruined the game experience for me...i loved 1.5 everything worked well, and there were still some servers that did not have cheaters...i cant find a non laggy server either and my graphics are worse, same resolution and same settings as before but now they are worse? whats with this?

Steam is great once you get it working properly. I personally hate 1.5 waay more than I have ever hated steam.

um speaking of CS anyone know how i can close some spyware programs or get them off of my computer so i can run CS the correct way with out massive lag? anyways ive had to many problems with steam ive installed it like 3 times now everytime it went to hell and made my computer go to hell so i gave up on it i still play 1.5 and probably will be till i get my own computer :)
