Snipers for the most part are people who hide and have no talent whatsoever. They never go get guys , they just wait for someone to come get them. Think about it , how much skill is REALLY invloved in sitting then pulling a trigger?

Take a hardcore sniper , throw him in speedball and see what happens.....

Speedball takes quick decisions , which always win the day , snipers are very slow at thinking , all the snipers i've played suck really really really really really bad at it .

I'm sure this will make some of you " snipers" mad , but don't deny the truth!

Also , if you think scopes are cool , check out http://www.stickballmovies.com/movies/stickball.html !

Are you guys kidding? I am the ultimate sniper. My Shocker is packed full of closed-bolt fury...and we all know closed-bolt means better distance and accuracy.

Anyway, there is no such thing as a sniper in our fine sport. Anyone who says they're a sniper usually just sits in the very back bunker, shoots about 4 paintballs a game and every time someone calls out he says "I sniped you!! I am a paintball god!! A GOD!!!" or something like that...:)

Actually, there are "snipers" in woods ball. Usually people who depend on setting up clear fire lanes. They depend on accuracy and target selection instead of "spray and pray". Not as common in today's game as they were a few years back when accuracy was more important because firepower was lower. The good ones usually worked with a teammate who kept people off their back as they picked off players at extreme range. Look in some of the APG issues from '93 - '95 and you will find at least 5 or 6 articles a year about the techniques used.

There are no snipers in paintball! You have people rushing in the front lines, people in mid giving cover and people in the back. The back player(s) simply lay a ton of paint, keep enemies pinned, and call out locations. They are NOT snipers...

For further analysis please refer to stickballmovies.com and check out the scope movie (BTW, Great site NitroDuck) :)

EDIT: Just challenge him to a game. He can stand in the back staring through a cope 'sniping' you, while you rush around his flank and bunker him!

Ok, I know I'm going to get slammed on this, but it ticks me off.

There are no snipers in SPEEDBALL. Speedball is not the whole sport. I've been playing paintball since the late 80's and play mostly woods, and sniping is definately a legitimate tactic in the woods.

What a paintbal sniper is not-
People who sit and wait for other players to come to them so they can ambush them are not snipers.

People with flatlines who try to longball the other team and stand out in the open are not snipers.

                What a paintball sniper is-
A person who uses stealth to infiltrate and get behind the other teams position and then makes a number of eliminations using as little paint as possible. They must be able to move quickly and undetected, as well as be able to escape if they are discovered prematurely. A sniper usually works alone or with one other teamate and does there thing deep in the other teams position. This can lead to some very interesting situations.

A sniper must be patient and will not always shoot immediately upon detecting the other team. Instead the sniper will manuver to a position in wich the terrain gives him the advantage, and will choose when to initiate the action. Because of the range limitations of a paintball gun, this can be very challenging.

Where I play, we normally have 15 man teams and I will often be asked to handle an area that is 1/5 the size of the whole field. (Its a big field) I can often stop a team of 5 or more by myself by eliminating one or two, and then the rest will not know where I am, and will not advance. I can then manuver on them and take some more. It is vital to be able to MOVE when doing this, as if you just stay where you are after the initial contact, they will know where you are and will beat you with shear numbers.

A good example of this happened last week when 7 guys tried to sneak through a particularly thick area of the field to get behind our team. They ran into me and after I got the first one, the 6 that were left stopped, unsure how many they were facing. I repositioned and got another, causing the rest to move back.
The rest of my team, meanwhile had the other main group of the other team badly outnumbered and was kicking but. I advanced slowly and swung out to the side of the 5 that were left with me. Two of them were talking wich alllowed me to get a good fix on where they were hiding and I lowcrawled in and got one, while the other one ran and was nailed by my teammates, who had finished off the outnumbered group of the other team, and moved into my area. The last two started to shoot it out with my teammates from behind a fallen tree in the brush and I snuck up and got a double surrender.

So a lone 'sneaky bastard' if you dont want to call it sniping, can be very effective in a WOODS game. And yes, the guys I got out that game and in many others do say that I "Sniped" them.

I'm sure many people will disagree with me about this, and say that all sniping is done from long range, but the way I see it, Range is not an issue and it just make this style of play (Alone outnumbered and using stealth as your only defense) that much more of a challenge.

Ok, feel free to bash me all you want now.

I wouldn't call that sniping, it sounds more like something SEALs would do, or some other special forces, so I still say there are no snipers in paintball. I've heard some pretty stupid things from people who have only played once or twice, like today I heard quite possibly the most stpuid comment about paintball, and I quote "yeah, the samurai is probably the best semi made," "but my stingray is pretty good too, I think it's a toss up"

This guy had told me he had been playing paintball for 5 years, and that he played in tournaments and had never lost in a tourny, after I heard the stingray/samurai remark I just turned around and left him standing there, feeling disgusted, cause he probably tells other people BS stories like this and gives people the wrong impression about paintball.

Magadeth is exactly right. In the military, the sniper is an observer first, a "lone disruptor" second, and a precision marksman last. Shooting is secondary in military sniping, your job is to get into an area undetected, observe all activities for an hour to several days, maintain your hide so as to never reveal your position to roving enemy patrols, and maybe, just maybe get a clear shot at the bad guy.

Most of you keep refering to speedball. The back player can be called a sniper using the above criteria. He watches for movement in order to reveal the other teams intentions and calls out this information to his team. He keeps the other team bottled up by keeping paint in the air, and he occasionally is able to get an elimination with a well aimed shot.

In woods ball, just as Magadeth said, the sniper is a super sneaky player that does not rely on volume for eliminations. He used much of the same techniques that a real GI sniper would use; stealth, using the enemy's noise to triangulate their whereabouts and mask his own noise, then only using minimum shots to get the outs and surrenders. (Good job by the way!)

So, you can tell your friend that yes, there are snipers in paintball, and you are sorry for questioning his wisdom........

Magadeth is right here. Paintball sniping is not sitting in the back of the field, shooting once or twice like the military snipers you kiddies see in the movies (kiddies use language and grammar like you). Snipers usually work in groups of two- one with the rifle of choice, another with a higher rate of fire weapon backing him (or her) up. This works in woods paintball. Not the higher rate of fire part, but I'm shure some of you get my point.
I personally consider any carefully aimed, one or two shot elimination a "snipe." This excludes spray and pray of any sort. I don't do this often, it takes too long. I prefer to bunker people. In the woods, however, I love sneaking behind someone, or manuvering around to suprise them. The greatest compliment I haved recieved was after playing a game in the woods. A player from the other team said " I thought you were right in front of me, then I heard a shot from my left, then from my right; I had no idea where you were!" or something to that effect. Whatever. To each their own, I guess.
"And I think your opinion that my opinion is wrong, is wrong."

A good sniper is also useful against multi-story towers. I knew one whose favorite trick was to wait for a player to get attacked from one side causing him to move and expose an elbow or foot, then tag it with a two or three shot burst.

Dangit, can I have a show of hands how many ppl read the original post?

All you that said there are snipers in this posts are WRONG!

Yes, the are snipers in paintball, but not under the specifications that were made by the person who started this thread. He asked to help prove that there are no paintball snipers that make shots at great distances that " sit in the back" and "make on shot one kill" hits. Under these guidlines there are NO paintball snipers.
