What kind of things do teams look for when you try out for them. I am trying out for back. This won't be an easy team to make, so i definitly need to impress them.

Aggressive on the field. Good personality. Remember you can be an awsome player by yourself but if you can gel with the team you arent worth anything to them. Listen and do what your told but at the same time be somewhat independent (making your moves). Play hard and play honest. 1 major thing is to know your gear. If something happens you need to be able to fix it yourself. Nothing worse then having to work on someone elses gear when your trying to gear up yourself. Hope this helps you out some.

When true evil smacks you in the face you never forget it.

When I was recently picked for a 10-man team, one of the the things I was told I do well is doing whast I'm told.

I will be playing snake, and in the position, you can only do what you're told. If someone tells you to do something, do it. If you get taken out doing it, it was that person's fault, not yours. I know that sounds like placing the blame, but any real team player knows it. If you send someone to do something, and they get hit, you need to be sure to take the blame. It's a TEAM game, you have to keep that in mind 1st and foremost!

Remember to RELAX. Don't get caught up in the fact that it's a tryout.

If you are going for back, make sure you communicate well. A front player depends on your information. You also have to listen and be aware of what your other players need from you at any given moment.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

of course there are the intangibles that all low-key teams like this need:
              1) reliability (you'll be at every practice and every tourny)
              2) finances (spending for paint every weekend and for tournies -- even with some sponsorship is a lot)
              3) transportation...can you get there?
              4) reliable gear
              5) extra (spare) relaible gear (a backup of everything?)

Things that my team looks for: (as if we're the benchmark )

                1. Personality. If you're not a nice, easy-going guy, we don't want you. Anyone can become an amazing paintball player - it's all about personality.

                2. Willingness to listen to game plans and the captain. When it comes to which bunker you should take off the break, or changing up your style, you need to realize that your teammates only suggest these things because they want to win.

                3. Knowledge of the field and game. Make sure you know the correct terminology for the field. Stuttering in the middle of a game, "uhh...he's...over there!" doesn't help! Try out, "Watch their 40 dorito!" that's a lot more informative!

                4. Be a fun person! Again, ANYONE can be an awesome paintball player (since the sport is still new, it's not as cliquey as skiing or hockey), it's all about how you approach it.
My AIM Intimidator is better than your Automag. Get over it.

I am just curious.. what if your team offered tryouts for a front position, and one guy showed up and played well, got teh desired eliminations and fit the bill... except he played with a pump.

                    Would you still take him?

Now I am curious because this thought experiement would really test the equipment qualifications. He doesn't play back so he doesn't need to lane... he plays from, knows his pump, knows hows to play tight and snap shoot and knows how to work with a back player. What would you do if he showed up?

                          Pump

Id take the guy with the pump, no doubt.

It would be classic to see the other team snickering before the game, and shocked after, because they just got raped by a pump :).
