hey, am I the only one who busts hoppers w\pballs?

I play at my friends very small homemade speed ball field, and I have seen 3 hoppers shot through by pballs. Today, I blew a huge hole in my pals hopper from like 5-10 ft. I'm pretty sure none of the guns are hot (Spyder, 98's, and my Auto-Mag).

This only worries me, because I don't want to go to a field or even a rec game and get my soon to be purchased 12vlt shot through...Are the revs built to take a nasty shot???

What color hopper are we talking about here? I have played for several years without seeing a hopper break, unless I am the one tearing it apart. I have heard that the clear hopper is the one which breals the most often.

the one that I shot today

was a blue hopper, non-agitated. The other ones I saw that got busted were..I think standard view loaders were the other 2 I've seen busted...

          Only once.

From clear accross the field, diagonal. With RP Scherer premium. Playing in 90+ degree heat w/ 80%+ humidity. The field guns that we had to use in Singapore were even Chroneyed in way low! That day we may as well have been shooting marbles. Sad thing is we played on. :)

my friends and I all have our "indoor" hoppers. Seems as though every time we go indoor or to a small speed ball field we always walk away with a few more holes in our loaders. Mine has 4 in it right now. It's more 100 mph tape than it is plastice; good thing it's a 9v.

I've broken several, all of them were clear, and I was never shooting hot. One felt really bad about, this guy who had never played at the field before, came out and brought a brand new (still in box) 12v clear, the first game I hit his hopper, after the game when he was filling his hopper, it suddenly fell apart, we looked closer and found that it had a nice crack right where I hit it. I found out later he got a new one for free, but I still felt bad.

I'm not sure what the exact link is off the top of my head, but just a little while ago WARPIG did a balistics test on revolutions. It's a really good article, worth reading if your looking at purchasing a new hopper, or just to see how your hopper preformed. Hope this helps.

Ive taken plenty of hopper shots close up, and hit plenty of hoppers close up, and never seen a break. Well, actually last time i played i noticed a small crack, but I canont confirm if it was from a ball, or smacking into a bunker. I know i have had someone shoot my hopper about to times from about 5 ft, when I left my gun, and that didn't break it. It is possible, that something is weakening these specific hoppers, or if the quality has gone down.

How sure is "pretty sure?" You did chrono them before play didn't you? If not, that is an incredibly unsafe practice. Chronos have really come down in price, there are a variety available for under $100. By the time you break that cost up amongst your friends (10 guys, that's 10 bucks each - cheap) it's really affordable - and considering that VL's little chrono I've seen on sale for $19 - there's no excuse not to chrono - it's way cheaper than a glass eye.

                      See you on the field,

I've seen 2 break, but neither was shot close. One was about 30-40ft and the other maybe 50ft. They were old hoppers, not revys.

                          That's not right...

I'm pretty confident that if I shot my revvy from 6 feet away it would not break. You're shooting way too hot if you're busting hoppers.

it's just a characteristic of blowmold; that is, some parts are thinner than others.

Your 12volt will not break unless it is shot from 6 inches away..even then I do not think it would break or spilt
