Interesting. Maybe it's some relative or off-shoot of a Cottonmouth. It's colorings are really bright though, so maybe it's the product of microevolution.Comment

actually looks more like a golpher snake. Does it flick its tail like a rattler?> Harmless snake and very taimable, I have had a few in the 3-6 foot rangeComment

No. I am pretty sure its a Garter Snake. Although I failed to notice the miss spelling of it. But thats what it is...
Here is some pictures at this site: http://museum.gov.ns.ca/mnh/nature/snakes/garter.htm
I have seen many snakes rattle thier tails mimic of the Rattle snake when scared. The most impressive one I ever saw was the Hog Nosed snake when it puffs out its head and rattles. Looks like a viper of some type. Will even strike and bite. But its not poisonous. But it fools many creatures into leaving it alone. It has similar markings to a Rattle snake as well. The lack of pits and its little turned up nose give it away though. If you look close.Comment

Alright thanks for all the help, damn if I knew that I would have pick it up. As you can see I know jake about snakes. I mostly see the little green ones around here.Comment

When you go to pick up a snake, grab it by the head and use it with the thumb and forefinger right behind it's jaw. This will make it unable to bite you. I once had a gater snake bite me and not want to let go. They do not hurt as their fangs are so thin, but damned if once they get you they don't wanna let go:)

Didnt grow up in PA. Although I have been here for sometime. I'm suprised I havent seen that many snakes. I've maybe 8-10 snakes and a few where dead.Originally posted by FlameboGrowing up in PA, I'm suprised you've never come into contact with one before. They're all over PA and suburban/rural Ohio. I used to catch them every day as a kid; they're totally harmless.Comment
