Uh.. i just cant see them holdign a patent for compressed air canisters themselves. it has been around for a long time, a lot longer than paintball. I think you got misled by someone/thing. And I dont think one person/company can hold a patent for a gas cylnder. Its like a TV. Not one company can hold a patent on a TV Tube becuase then only them could produce TV's. Now if there was soemthign specific about it, liek the Flatline reg.. then yes, they can hold an patent on that, and they get $ for every bottle sold with one on it.-Vegeta

ummm i dont know where you came up with this information. I'm sure Tom was a leader in bringing compressed air systems into paintball but im pretty sure that he doesn't have a pattent on them. what about scuba tanks or carbon fiber tanks that firefighters use for air. I mean im sure as said before he has the patent on the flatline system. but im pretty sure he doesn't have a patent on paintball compressed air tanks.shocker 4x4

Im pretty sure he does
if you remember in the automag video, it says thie is a compressed air tank, this is a little something We designed here at agd. Im prety sure i saw the patent on compressed air tanks to be used for paintball also.

Clarification?
Tom invented what exactly? Compressed Air Systems in general, or a part of the process that prevented freezups? Or a special system that is ONLY used in Paintball? It sounds like two separate issues to me, but I may be missing something.
And if what is being talked about is part of the system to prevent freezups, that is easy to get around by just making enough changes to get AROUND the patent(s) to make it legal. This is done all the time in the Auto Industry. So unfortunately Tom would be left in the cold anyway by other slick companies.. patent or no patent.
And I thought compressed air systems were around a heck of a lot longer than Paintball.
Again... I am confused... Tom?Comment

i am wondering, if tom decided to use compressed air for paintball, and if he invented the compressed air paintball tank, nothing else~!

Compressed air has been around for a while, Tom did not invent this.
The process that prevents freezups is just using compressed air. There is nothing specially done to prevent freezups.
Most likely he was the first to use a regulator desined specifically for paintball. Probably the screw in reg.

PyRo I was thinking it was something along those lines. Thanks
I was hoping my questions would be the right ones to ask to get the correct answers.
Any further clarification or conformation from Tom or his Techs would be great. :)Comment

He could have patented say, a special tank or something made out of a new material (he didn't), but all another company would have to do was make a minor change (size, wiehgt, shape) and it would be a whole new product, bypassing the patent. Compressed air itself cant be patented. its air. i mena, its not like you can claim you invented air. well i guess you could but they would rip up your papers and laugh at your silly *** anyways. lol-Vegeta
