i do it for my benchmark frames makes shortstoking easier to happen also makes the trigger travel less but i dont shortstroke often.... just remember if u fiddle its at ur own risk i forgot what it can do but 10 years and running it that way i never have had issues

You can turn the trigger rod out as long as you maintain a gap between the rod and the back of the trigger. As soon as contact is made, you run the risk of short stroking.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

Ya...Just make sure U have some kind of gap between the trigger and the rod and you'll be fine.

so then this is a common method for increasing ROF? any problems i should be aware of before i do this other than short stroking, such as bending parts?

It really won't increase ROF, it will just affect the "breaking" point of your trigger.

If you don't have the gap, you can ruin your bolt because the sear will only be grabbing onto the edge of the bolt. Make sure you have a gap between the back of the trigger and the tip of the trigger rod when the marker is gassed up and the safety is on.
