I just bought a new pioneer cd player for my truck and was trying to hook it up but i couldnt get it. My truck is pretty old (1979) and I used the power wire that was going into the radio. On the back of the deck where the wires go into the deck theres the speaker wires and a thick yellow wire the is marked battery, a thin yellow\white wire that is marked ILL, and a thin red wire that is marked ACC. Theres also a thick black wire that the ground and i connected that to the same ground as the radio. On the instruction digrahm it says yellow to the terminal always supplied with power regardless of ignition switch position. Red to eletric terminal controlled by igniton terminal controlled by ignition switch (12 V DC)ON\OFF. Orange\white to lighting switch terminal and black to ground. First I connected the yellow wire to the power wire to the radio. The deck didnt turn on so i disconected it a connected the red wire to the radio power wire. Again nothing.I dont no where to connect thw other wires to or to get power to the device. Any ideas of what i did wrong or what i have to do would be very helpful. Thank You
Im getting irritated that i cant hook up my deck to my truck. Some help?

Yes! and its possible the radio uses the Chassis for ground too. It may not connect by a ground wire but have to be seated into the Mounting Chassis . Easiest thing is to buy or borrow a cheap Mulimeter to make sure of you voltage and Acc on/off stuff though.Comment

Did you buy a wiring harness and car kit for the stereo that matches your truck?
Go to www.installdr.com they have a lot of install info including wiring
info for various cars, may have one for yours.Comment

Got It
well i finally figured out that all i had to do was connect the power and the acc together to the stock power wire. That was all the electrical stuff i had to do but to get the deck to fit i had to take a dremal, hacksaw, pliers, and hammer to get it in.The hole was to small so i had to cut it to size but then there were two metal braces that i had to cut bend and whack with a hammer to get them out of the way.Lovely. I got one 6by9 and one stock speaker. The mids and highs aren't bad but the lows crap hard. I guess i need an amp and some 10 in tubes. As soon as i get the money i guess.Comment

if you buy some good quality 6x9's the bass actually isn't that bad in terms of sound. of course if you want it loud and thumping then yeah you need an amp and subs. i've got kenwood 6x9 2 ways in my car (KFC-6905S). very nice sounding bass. tight response no flutter. not really audible outside the car unless i open the windows but while i'm inside it's plenty loud enough. they cost me $80 from crutchfield. worth every penny. crutchfield is great cause they give you all the harnesses and mounting brackets. you tell them the make and model of your vehicle and they tell you if it'll fit and how much work you're gonna have to do to make it fit. they give you all the pieces you need to make it go in nice. with my stereo i got the wiring harnesses for the head unit and speakers. i got a bracket to make the head unit slide right into where the stock unit was. it had some sort of weird peg-hole thing to stabilize the back of it. they gave me mounting brackets for my 6x9's cause the stock speakers had sort of a clip-on bracket. the speakers didn't fit in the same brackets as the stock so they gave me these metal attachments that fit just like the stock bracket. plus they gave me printouts with all kinds of diagrams and instructions that made it very easy. crutchfield is awesome. i'll deal with them whenever i can.
