Flatline Barrel...Why only for tippman? (and wgp). Flatline mag barrel possible?

Hey guys...i was just wondering...is there any reason why a flatline barrel for automag just wouldnt work?

Hows this for an idea...Some special person out there should thread a tippman flatline to go into a freak back :)

hehe, just wondering if this is possible, all these "How can I make my gun shoot twice as far at 300fps than my friends cheap spyder" threads are getting redundant, and i was wondering if backspin is an option. I know the Z body and large bore barrel can do it, but why cant you just curve the barrel?

Backspin is not very good to have...do a search cuz I don't remember why.

Something about the ball slowing down the a point in which it won't break when it reaches that extra range.

well...that is an issue....but people still use and love tippman flatlines. I think a bigger issue with the tippmans is not mounting them correctly, and that when the gun is tilted a little the ball curves.

The differnet feed orientations would screw things up a bit on mags, but i was just wondering why no other guns have flatlines released for them when tippman's model is relatively popular.

flatlines may get extra range, but in my experience, it still doesnt help. the balls just float at ya when you're out of range with normal guns, but in range for the flatline. You can either move out of the way, or let 'em bounce. They're also pretty inaccuarate. Also, why would you want to limit yourself to one barrel? if you get bad paint w/ the flatline, its even worse.
*NOTE* - these are just my experiences shooting one and playing with/against a few. the ones ive seen couldve been all aligned wrong or messed up, or something.

When set up properly Flatlines are great. I've used my brother's in the woods and took out someone from far away (much further than I'd reach with a std barrel). I shot it as fast as I could with no problems. I really don't understand the complaints against the barrel...

To summarize, no problem with:

1. barrel breaks - we shoot PMI Premium
2. fast shooting
3. people dodging "floaters"
4. paint not breaking (similar to most other barrels)

So where can I read something on the Z-Body. The only thing I read was on WarPig, I think and it was not too positive.

My brother sleeps with his Tippman Sniper. (98 custom w/ flatline barrel sys.) In a woods game he is the scariest thing out there. Silent, Stealthy and a dead on shot, he easily takes on 3 or more guys solo. In an open field game he can pin people down with just a few balls. If he sees you in the bunker and doesn't want you to move you won't. I have heard alot of bad things about the flatline, but we talk to the owner of the paintball store we go to and he explained how to reseat the barrel and clean the gun so that the gub is always consistant. If there is wind his shots are a little off, but out to 50 yards he can hit a target in full run. Not someone you want to see on the other end of a field.

why go through the process of making a banana barrel when the little nubbin-type thing in the Z-body does the same thing?

I know you mentioned the z-body. I have not shot one, but I know people who own them. they look much nicer than the Flatline barrels, and they take other barrels.

I hear small bore paint in large bore barrels works the best with it.

Well you can use a Z-Body for mags. Anyone have any experience on them? They look pretty cool but I have never seen one in action.

I am not asking only about mags, just wondering what is so special about the tippy. I assume tippman didnt patent the idea, or at least is being cool about lending it out because of WGP's flatline cocker

i know i am just sick of reading articles and expecting to see a pic of the prototype or something and just seeing a army figure or something and it doesn't waste server space because it is usually a link out to somewere else unless you have a sig with a pic that is already on the site.

Some were asking why we don't see one made for a mag. Well I'd imagine it's two reasons.

1) It's patented

2) you'd have to cut up the whole mag body or at least make a new one to fit the barrel, which would have to be the tippmann barrel itself to bypass #1. I can't see it working on a freak back since the change inertia at velocity would just crush the ball in the barrel. The reason it works in the 98 and the cocker is because the bolt starts the ball right at the point of the upwards turn of the barrel. It's certainly possible in the mag, but you have to get that thing seated all the way back by the bolt, thus requiring a cut body and new breech to be "fashioned".

It would be cool to see someone with machinery skills try this out once on an old crappy mainbody. Who knows, "someone" might even donate one for you to try it out on :) I'd buy one to replace my 98 in a second. It's still cool to have in woods ball since shooting under the canopy is something that is frequent for me. But I dont like cockers, and Z-bodies are really hard to come by.
