Gnat and/or fruit fly problemm...suggestions on how to get rid of them?

Well I just got back from vacation with my dad, and leave it to my mom and sister that we have a pest problem. They said their were tons of gnats, and some look like fruit flies to me, and we tried vinegar and it's killing them, but they're still around. So does anybody have any suggestions or know anything to try or use that will help get rid of them (and there's no rotten food around like bananas)? Thanks for the help.

i dont know if this will wprk, but we use it for meat bees. get a cup, liquid soap and a stick and a peice of meat (sausage turkey bologna etc.) put the meat on the stick in the middle. fill the cup about a fourth full of soap. the bees/flys will come, eat the meat, get to fat to fly an fall in the soap. then they drown and die.

fruit flies... don't just show up... there's something they are eating.. I sugjest a good cleaning, including a washing out of trash cans... sometimes they start nesting in the grime thats in the bottom of those. If they don't clear up un a week i dunno what to do, I've never heard of them being around without food. We once had a banana peel fall behind a trash can outta sight and we couldn't figure it out for weeks

Ok and after clean up if you want something to catch and kill them thats not lethal to animals here it is....

Place a few small glasses of Red Wine around. They will go to it like magnets and drown in it. Change it once a day. It works. Trust me.

Anyway, when we get that problem at work we disinfect anything that's damp...pour powerful floorcleaners in the mop bucket, drains, sinks, etc.
