Thread: Smart Parts Patent Will Destroy Paintball! - Read!

This is not really about just a switch. Smart Parts has been granted a patent for the electo-pneumatic paintball gun. They recently revised the patent to include the facts that if the marker has an electrical on/off switch it would violate their patent. There are other things that would violate the patent as well, like a solenoid, a low pressure regulator, high pressure regulator, battery, etc...

Sorry about that Jim..what i took from the original quote that I quoted was that someone was asking why people automatically assume if X-Ball does whatever, that the rest of the tourney series in the country should just follow them blindly..I meant to say that they don't...but that Richmond and NPS would love for them TO go ahead and follow them...it was my fault for not clarifying their position (I've been working on computer hardware all day long...my brain is mush)

Guys, this patent has nothing to do with people, just manufacturers. People can do whatever they want. Anyone selling a marker commercially that violated Smart Parts' patent would be subject to criminal and/or civil prosecution.

I think what will happen is that NPS (who owns the Intimidator) will make a mechanical Intimidator and Wicked Air Sportz will make pneumatics and electronics for paintball markers.

Alright, so what we do is get a heard of angry bulls and release them right outside smart parts HQ. Then we...

    Bunny,

My point was that NPS owns the Intimidator, and have a significant amount of money invested and pending on that marker (more than what Smart Parts is worth, I would bet). NPS is not likely to agree with anything that Smart Parts wants to do.

I was actually alluding to another post more than a few pages back where someone said that if X-Ball outlawed electro markers to spite SP, would the other series follow suit...I don't think they would...unless motivated...but I'm sure that RI would love it IF everyone followed X-Ball's example...(much like the minor leagues taking on the same rules as the majors...if you view X-Ball as the majors..and my opinion on that is neither here nor there)

With all of this mess... Im glad the ULE trigger came out.

Non-electronic markers will be very popular if "Smart Parts"
succedes in this scheme they have.

Write and mail those letters guys....

i think smart parts has a patent on me.
it looks like they have a patent on paintball as a whole by the patent office records. well except for the balls. i guess they'll not claim they invented the sport completely.

This is messed up. I haven't played in over a year, but I was thinking of picking up a used Impy or something to see if I'd like to get back into it. Scratch the Impulse I guess. This is straight off the website, but I'll make it easier for you to "express your discontent":

they cant have a lp and high pressure reg on a patente...that means taht we cant use any reg of any kind...this patent is basically brining down paintball and making smart parts the only compony in paintball...all well have left is paint to buy which they will prolly start making soon

does sp think they can be god or become god....?

this is a real deal and i ohnestley see a judge granting the patent for no electronic switches...i mean if a juddge agreed to take it this far when they want a million dollars from componies....then how much farther could it go

  29. it was a broad statement to get people to shut the hell up. you are using linux, i see you want a cookie. that's why i said 99% and not 100%, because i knew there would be someone to come in and say what you just said lol.'

here's my stand on this whole matter:
what SP is doing is morally wrong, BUT, this is business, and business has no morals. they have a patent, they are entitled to defend it. SP isn't like the french, they aren't just going to roll over onto their side and get stepped all over. they can do whatever the hell they want to do regarding THEIR patent, and your little emails and boycott SP icons aren't going to do anything but annoy people. the fact is, you really have no say in the matter, it all comes down to what the judge thinks.

and don't compare what SP is doing to nazism, it's 2 totally different things and it's a slap in the face.
