I remember talking to Colin @ DeadlyWind who was going to do this very mod a few years back. But he moved awway from mags, and onto Ions.

I toyed with the idea, which is where this came from... http://www.pblegion.com/showthread.php?t=2637

You did a good job WM.Occassionally some bolts do rub, here is a pic MoeMag posted on PBL... http://www.pblegion.com/showpost.php...5&postcount=16

Yeah, I've noticed similar rubbing like that on the random ULE bodies I've come across. That was one of the things that had me concerned in the first place. I guess testing will tell.

    Bump.

So seriously, what's the deal with this, any possibility of this happening?

  5. #35
So far I have shot 1500 shots or so out of it, and no problems so far, I will take it out again in couple of weeks and flog it some more.
I have nothing good to put here...........

Ok, just making sure this didn't get completely forgotten about because it's an interesting idea.

I have that same bolt rub problem on my tac. i guess i used to over tighten it and now its gotten to the point where i had to put a layer of tape underneath the valve to get it to fire.seems to have fixed the problem, havnt had any issues in months

I must have missed this thread before, and now I can't load the pictures. I'm definitely interested in this project and would love to see some pictures.

Now I can see the pictures. I would love to see a combination of a CF body and rail.

Yeah, the server was shifting some things around this weekend, so it might have been down for a little bit. Right now Shane-O is still testing the prototype body I made, but other than that, there's no new news on the project. I would definitely like to see this come to life, but I'm totally swamped with school life right now. Possibly next week I will be able to dump a little more time into it and scoot things along, but for right now, I got nothin'.

Has this project died? or just stalled? I'm still interested. Is there a chance there could be a warp version of the carbon fiber body?

I've pretty much stalled out on it for now. I've been way too busy with school and real work this past semester to devote any free time to the project. This winter break might be a good time to work on it and get everything finalized to hit the marker this spring though. That's just a complete imagination spurt though...

    Someday!

You could take up some of that slop with a new rail bushing also. Just make it a little higher than the rail inside where the valve rests on, and tighten your thumbscrew finger tight. It's what I did to alleviate my problem and it works nicely.

I definately would entertain the idea of owning one. Something different than everyone else has.

That occurred to me as well, and then I get down to the bottom of the page and find two people have already beaten me to the punch

If something like that could be fabricated, and you put a carbon fiber barrel on it... wow would that be one light mag. How durable are the best carbon fiber applications? I just think that there would have to be a balance between how light your setup was and how much abuse it could take. Obviously if the whole gun is carbon fiber you'd want to be much more careful with it than an aluminum one.

Now the real question is... who can we find on this forum who has the time, money, and skill with carbon fiber to build these?

The bodies are slated to be made, its just gonna be awhile. Warped has a heavy school load and regular job thats slowing him down. Maybe this summer we can nail him to the floor in his shop and get some cranked out.

I have shot 3/4 of case so far with it and so far no problems. I need to shoot a few more cases, and check for wear or damage to the carbon fiber part.

I was bugging WM a few months back with endless pms, then i decided he couldnt get it doen if he was busy emailing me....so i stopped.

If not, i'll take one. Just tell me where to send the $$$.

As I plan around this body, my only concern is what the front of a ULE'd RT rail would look like, given the short appearance of the lip of the body. I would take one either way, but it would be nice to be able to use one without a gap on a long rail.

Sheesh! This is what I get for not keeping up on my own thread!

Had I known this many more people would be interested, I would have put more attention on the project. I am going to go back through all my old files and make sure everything is spot on, and then get a quote for the breech section from my machinist. I need to call up Shane and see how its been performing and if we can do a torture test on it to see how well the CF tube holds up. Good thing with this design is that the tubes are replaceable and I will have spare ones available.

Shane said it best though, I do have a heavy school load (going for manufacturing engineering) plus a part-time engineering/machinist job that keeps me busy as well. I'm going to pull up my old files though and see if I can make some things happen, quicker.

Thanks for the support guys and I want to see this come to life!

That's good news, WM! Looking forward to hearing what you come up with.
