Magnetic Acceleration as power source for paintball

    now here is the premise,
using the same principal of transfer of kinetic energy used in the "magnetic acceleration toys"
in a pump paintball gun a spring driven magnet is released from the sear
spring driven magnet collides with first fixed magnet transferring energy to the next free magnet and so on,
final free magnet drives piston into cylinder compressing the air launching the ball in a similar
methodology to that used in the "Arrow Gun" paintball/pellet shooter.

    thoughts?
    suggestions?
    points of note?

I had a similar idea for a magnetically powered compressor. This sounds like the same basic theory just done one cycle at a time.

I don't think you could do it with batteries though. You'd need way too many amps to power a compressor of that power level. Especially considering it has to be so small and light, you need a tremendous amount of energy to fire that magnet fast enough to create the pressure needed.

Garage compressors run probably somewhere between 10 and 30amps depending on size. Granted you're trying to compress a much smaller volume of air, but you need to be able to do it in a few milliseconds.

You might have better luck if you don't use the gauss effect to compress air, but use it to "push" the paintball.

BTW - gauss guns were always my favoite in fallout games
