Just a quick guess may be the smaller paint we are all shooting these days. The "ting" may have been greater due to the 1990 paint fiting tighter. Just a thought.

I agree with Shives. It's most likely the paint is a lot smaller. The Crown Point barrels had a larger bore.

Which one are you talking about? Do you have a picture? The only ones that had "spring ping", were the first ones that were one piece with the crown cut in the end, except for the metal ring on the tip to prevent it from being a puncture weapon. The metal ring would resonate.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

I remember getting one of the crown point barrels when they first came out. I couldn't stand the pinging sound it made when I fired. I have never seen one of these "2nd generation" barrels. Can you post a picture? Thanks!

To counter-act the "ping", people started putting an o-ring around the business end. It may have been the same o-rings from the breach end of the barrel. It just cut down on the sound. Later versions of thew barrel actually had a grove around the outside, at the top of the crown, just below the ring. It kept the o-ring from moving around. Me, I like the sound.
