    Valve repair?

Hi, when is Air Gun Designs stopping the valve star thing? You know, where you send it in and they will give you another one. Thanks!

The valve star system is their warranty program. You can read about it below.

What you are asking about is the Go-Xvalve program. what they do is give you $100 off the purchase of a new X-Valve. That goes on until they say so. AFAIK, there is no planned stoppage of this program.

    **Snip**

    AIRGUN DESIGNS WARRANTY PROGRAM

We offer a 90-day limited warranty from the date of original retail purchase. This limited warranty covers some parts, labor, manufacturing defects, and malfunctions. It does not cover abuse such as wrapping the marker around a tree when you lose a game, nor does it cover damage that occurs as part of an accident such as a house fire or hurricane.

After the 90-day limited warranty ends, we have what we call star warranty program. There are one to four stars laser engraved above the serial number on your marker's valve assembly. Each star entitles you to a free repair of your marker.

When you send your marker in for repair, we will drill a small dent into one star and so "punch" it out. After we have punched a star there is again a 90-day warranty to make sure we fixed your marker properly. If the marker still has the same problem it was sent in for, we will fix it again without punching another star, as long as the marker is returned to us within 90 days.

We will still service your marker after all the stars are used, but we will charge you a standard rebuild fee of $45 ($65 for E-Mags), which covers the replacement of soft parts and return ground shipping. There will be additional charges for hard parts such as bolts or sear assemblies. Just as there is a 90-day warranty on repairs done under the star program, there is also a 90-day warranty on rebuild repair work.

    PLEASE NOTE:

RTs with serial numbers under 4000 (1 to 3999) are out of warranty and are subject to the $45 rebuild fee. RTs with serial numbers 4000 and up will receive free service until December 31, 2002, at which time all RTs will be out of warranty and require a rebuild fee of $45. We will consider making an exception if our records show the valve has never been in for repair before.

All E-Mags, RT Pros, Retro Valves and Flatlines without engraved stars have the equivalent of 2 stars. We will "punch" the valve to show that a warranty repair has been done on the valve. We are going to begin laser-engraving stars on these valves soon.

Existing Minimag valves have four stars; we will be lowering the number of stars on Minimag valves to two.

THERE ARE EXCEPTIONS to our warranty service policy:

    *
We will not perform any type of service on a marker which has been reported stolen according to our company guidelines.

    *
We will not perform any type of service on a marker which has no serial number. We will not perform any type of service on a marker if the serial numbers on the valve body and the regulator body of the valve assembly do not match. We will contact you to offer the Valve Exchange program or the Go Retro program.

    *
Level 7 updates and cracked power tubes will no longer be handled at no charge. If you own an older valve (below Level 7) or you have a cracked power tube, you may purchase a brand new valve with warranty under the Valve Exchange program or the Go Retro program.

    *
We no longer provide free warranty service for older Classic, 68AutoMag, and Minimag valves without stars located on the valve. If a starless valve comes in (this includes valves with stars but have aftermarket reg halves which include ANS Phase II regulators, PMI Perfect Charger regulators, Diamond Labs 8-hole mod regulators, and etc.), we will contact the customer to arrange payment before beginning repair work. In other words: No Star, No Warranty. We will consider exceptions for valves where both halves have matching serial numbers and our records show the valve has never before received repairs.

    *
Airgun Designs’ markers equipped with the E-LCD Boo-Yah or Centerflag’s Hyper Series Frames WILL NOT be accepted at the factory. If you want us to repair your marker, your aftermarket electronic trigger frames must be replaced by your stock frame. Any marker with an electronic trigger frame will be repackaged and shipped back to the customer without any work being performed on the marker. NO EXCEPTIONS!! Also, Diamond Labs or Dye frames invalidate the warranty and will require a $45 rebuild fee. Benchmark and, of course, our own Intelliframes will not invalidate the warranty if they have not been modified.

    *
We will no longer fix markers for free either under the limited warranty or the star warranty if the marker has an aftermarket part and/or accessory that causes a problem. Some examples of modifications and/or parts that can cause problems include:

    a. painted mainbodies
    b. two finger triggers (other than our own)
    c. wooden grips
    d. aftermarket valve assembly parts (automatic rebuild fee)
    e. aftermarket o-rings and seals
    f. aftermarket bolts (especially Venturi bolts)
    g. aftermarket on/off assemblies

    * MicroMag bodies and SmartMag bodies are not made by AGD, though we do make these valves. If we determine that the body is causing the problems, a charge may apply. There is no warranty against leaks caused by Black Box modifications (SmartMag). Both of these products will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
    * Splash Kits (usually found on SmartMags and mags with Eclipse modifications) may cause the repairs to be subject to charges.
    * In many cases, aftermarket accessories such as barrels, expansion chambers and grip frames do not cause a problem and will not void the warranty. Many aftermarket parts and accessories are available. We have no problem with aftermarket parts being installed in our markers. However, please keep your stock parts on hand and replace them first if you have problems with your marker. If we determine that an aftermarket part is causing the problem, the repairs will require at least the $45/$65 rebuild fee.

    And finally …

    * Please do NOT send any barrels or air systems or other removable accessories with your marker unless specifically told to do so by our Tech Department. Airgun Designs is not responsible for any accessories sent to us along with a marker and not necessary to the repair.
    * Customers and dealers MUST call Airgun Designs to obtain a Return Authorization (RA) number before sending any marker, valve, accessory or part to us for repairs. Any product coming to the factory without a Return Authorization number will be shipped back to the customer. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
    * This warranty policy is subject to change or update without notice.

    Other Products
Warp Feeds have the same 90-day limited warranty as markers, and after 90 days have expired, repairs are considered on a case-by-case basis. Modifications may invalidate any warranty.

Intelliframes are the same as Warp Feeds.

E-Mag Conversions also have the same 90-day limited warranty. After that, the warranty goes with the valve - that is, if you convert a Classic with a one-star valve to an E-Mag, the converted E-Mag will get one free warranty repair, subject to the exceptions listed above.

ANY modifications made to Flatlines will invalidate the warranty.

I have a similar question... How do I tell if my valve is pre star, or already sent in for service once?

I have a Classic valve, serial CF136XX... is there an easy way to tell?
Hey Zero, how much did that Chipley cost ya?

If it has one or more stars engraved on the valve, then it has stars. If there are/were no stars engraved on the valve, then it is a prestar valve.

A call to AGD will determine if the valve has ever been in for repair.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.
