people don't play 15 on 15 speedball?

I've never seen or participated in it. As far as I know NPPL only has rules for 7, 5, and 3. I could see people playing it as a pick-up game but it would be a cluster on any standard sized field. Again, just my opinion.

because how we define the paradigm of our game/sport defines the conversation and opinions about it. if we define ourselves as one game, with different fields that changes paintball on a very fundamental level vs defining ourselves as two different games with similar equipment.

That makes sense. I guess I have no problem with saying "do you want to play on the speedball field?" vs "do you want to play speedball?". I do my best to introduce new people to the sport whenever I can and I find that playing in the woods is less intimidating for new players. Only a small number ever catch the bug and end up playing on speedball fields regularly. More often than not they get horror showed and go back to the woods for good.

As a player who participated in tournaments for many years, without ever having much exposure to woods/scenario/urban play, I find that it is aggravating that when I do want to give it a go, I am often discriminated against.

Player sometime assume that a "speedballer" going to play in the woods is either going to cheat, bonus ball, or try and overwhelm rental players through superior firepower. We as players could do a better job of making fellow players feel welcome regardless of what course they are on.

Edit- As for the remarks about pro players looking like "homeless crackheads", I can only assume that you are referring to Mark "Mr.H" Kressin. Who is not actually a pro player, but who is a self promoting genius responsible for much of the success of one of the largest growing paintball affiliated companies in recent memory. Have you actually seen any pro teams recently? Most of the pros who I play with take their physical fitness very seriously. I cant think of but a few real pros off hand who are not in great shape. These past couple years have really defined what it takes to be a pro paintball player.

Well paintball is paintball in the end and it doesn't matter if all the speedball fields disappeared or all the woodsball fields did, I'd find a way to play. I normally play speedball but love going out to the woods every now and then and can't wait till LL6. Not sure why people don't/can't appreciate both. Almost everyone started in the woods.

I know allot of people who never made the transition because the just had a woeful first time playing speedball. Walking on with a rental 98 and getting lit up by some kid with an Ego at point blank. I was fortunate enough to play with some great people who were all similarly equipped (at an AO NJ event no less). I had a fair amount of success and I was hooked.

Some fields do a good job of leveling the teams, others let their local teams practice against unsuspecting walk ons.
