Sorry my friend you are wrong ...

    (enter_geek_mode)

In appendix B ... under SR (Shire Reconning) 1482, it is said that shortly after Rose dies, Sam leaves the shire and then sails to the Grey Havens. He passes the red book onto Elanor and then passes the towers to depart out to the Grey Havens.

Its under the later events of the members of the fellowship heading.

Okay that's fine. I just knew he did not leave for the Greyhavens with Frodo and the others. Maybe he was told that though a ring bearer for a short while, now was not his time?

I'll have to break out my copy. and read the end again. It has been a long time!

Yes he was told that he did need to say behind to continue on with the shire ...

Legolas and Gimili eventually leave for the Grey Havens also ... this doesnt occur till the last event. Pipin and Merry eventually spend their last days in Gondor and are both laid to rest in the halls of the Great King.

Legolas and Gimli go, Legolas because he's an Elf and Gimli because their friendship was so great. They don't leave until after Aragorn and Arwen die though.

          Sam goes after Rosie dies.

Merry, being a knight of the Mark, returns there when Eomer dies, and Pippin goes to Gondor... both die of old age, at least one of them is entombed near Aragorn (but they both died before i think).

Arwen dies after Aragorn in LothLorien...

Its been a few months since i read the Appendices in depth... time to go into geek mode myself... :)

Neither Merry or Pipin goto the Grey Havens ...

SR 1541 -- "In this year on March 1st came at last the passing of King Elessar. It is said that the beds of Mariadoc and Peregrin were set aside the bed of the great king."

well, i loved the triogy. first movie was great, second was incredible, and the third was great. there was way too much going on to be told in 3 hours.
they should have ended the movie as soon as the ring was destroyed i guess

Is there a rule against necroposting my own thread?
