AO: We are back from the dead... again! After an 18 day outage, we are finally alive and well. Who knew how complicated updating software/databases from 2008 would be. I still have alot of tweaks to make, but my main goal was getting everything patched and updated to 2026.
Vbulletin 6 has changed alot since 2008 so we will have a ton of new features to dig into.
19 names and still going,.... we need 50 to make production.
The details are not hammered out just yet on the new board as far as features.
All we really have are basics:
Will support the ACE
Will support the HES
Will accept the AGD power source
Will be a complete replacement for the OEM board
Will have New Code/Software
Details that are being considered:
Updated ports on the board from Molex to JST
Bundled with a new solenoid coil (body no plunger)
Bundled with new Ultra-HES
Bundled with new Power wires/harness
RF/Wireless Hopper/Warp Feed Connection
Building a new ACE board
Details that are not going to be seen:
LED screen
OLED screen
End user upgradable/flash-able software
Here is an interesting fact that will make some of you happy:
This board will not be owned by the company that manufactured them,... they will be owned by us (us being myself and my silent partner) (other than the code)
You will not have to worry about supply as we will be purchasing all BOM and Gerber files to make the boards. If we have sour dealings with a company or get a better price, we can walk away whenever we choose.
We made the decision to purchase the labor and design cost up front last week. I will say it is pricy,... but it will eliminate a huge problem down the road.
P8nt, can you talk about the details that are being considered (solenoid coil, ultra HES, etc.)? Are these somethings that we/you are pushing for or are cost limiting? What are the advantages of these over the present configuration?

Bundled with a new solenoid coil (body no plunger)
This was being considered because of the connection of the current solenoid body to the OEM board IE: its directly soldered on. In order to add a nice new port for the solenoid,.. we need to either provide a pigtail with the board or a new solenoid coil.
Providing a pigtail means that you loose the "plug n play" factor. You also loose the 100% correct calibration of the solenoid. This however, is the cheapest solution to an upgrade board.
Providing a new solenoid coil means its a "plug n play" upgrade. Down side is that the cost will go up rather quick. The boards wont be cheap as it is..... look at what it costs for an OEM board and solenoid from AGD = $250.00
Bundled with new Ultra-HES
We may or may not change the ports from Molex to JST for the HES. Lots of guys are going to think that it would save cash to use the AGD HES,.. which from the go,. it would. You would run into a higher cost if you are one of those people whom do not know that AGD didnt have a color standard on the OEM HES,... making it impossible to write an accurate manual or support a product after it leaves our hands once purchased due to "operator error". Its easy to kill a board,... bundling it with a new HES we KNOW was build by us and the board will be designed for,... saves money in the long run.
Bundled with new Power wires/harness
We were thinking that most of you out there would ditch the OEM board (or Tuna will buy them all :) ) once the new board is purchased. With this in mind,.. we thought that making a new wire harness to work with the power supply would be best. This would be something with connectors that COULD plug into a ACE board if you decided down the road to upgrade your "guts" from an E-Mag to an X-Mag. This also relies on another possible bundles item,.......
Building a new ACE board
If we build a new ACE board,.. we jack up cost on everything about how the main board works with other parts. I think its safe to say that those of you whom JUST want a new Main board will not see a price hike in your board up front. You would see it in upgrades later on such as a new wire harness or something to add components later.
RF/Wireless Hopper/Warp Feed Connection
Pretty straight forward,... this would be the best thing ever to happen to a Warp Feed,.. save the next item we are working on
LED screen
OLED screen
End user upgradable/flash-able software
So...are you saying that, instead of turning the marker on and seeing "Xmod 1.4 Beta" scroll across a screen, all I am going to see is different colored LED's?
So...are you saying that, instead of turning the marker on and seeing "Xmod 1.4 Beta" scroll across a screen, all I am going to see is different colored LED's?
Yes. The LED screen is:
Expensive
Takes up a lot of usable space
Expensive to add in for hardware
Outdated as far as reasoning to keep it
Expensive to write code for
,.. expensive.
LEDs are just as good as anything else (besides OLED) and cut a lot of cost
