With so many AOer's living on the East coast, primarily from SC up to NH, I thought this would be a good place to post information about the Hurricane.

Weather Channel Video (http://www.weather.com/activities/verticalvideo/vnews/topstory.html?from=http://www.weather.com/newscenter/topstory/video.html)

I would hope that all East Coast residents take this storm VERY seriously. With an eye 60 miles wide and 100 mph + winds covering that radius, this storm must be taken very seriously.

So if anyone has tips/suggestions for preparing for the storm post them here. You never know, they might just save some AOer's life.

BTW: RobAGD, I don't think the South Park rule of "Duck and Cover" will work for this one, I would get out of VA if I were you. :p

If the US Navy and Air Force are moving ships and planes out of the path of this beast you know its gonna be a big one.

Tip #1: Be sure to have the beer fridge stocked. :D

With your $4.00/gallon gas prices? I'd much rather go to Canada. They have better beer. :D

nouseforaname,

lots of people affected, potentially, here. my thoughts are with them. I don't think I have anyone directly related out there, but it is concerning me, nonetheless.

Yeah, I do hope I get out of school this Thur/Fri.. The school handed out this letter to us making it sound like we are going to go to school during this storm, and that the "county officials will make it as safe as possible"..

Hey, feel bad for me, i live in New Bern which is directly in the storms path. Should make for alot of fun. I'm even going to have to work during the hurricane. Bossman said if he needed me he'd swing by my house in his truck and pick me up...yippie. Not taking my truck out in that mess.

you east coasters are blowing this way out of proportion. its always about you, you had to have the black out now you have to have the big hurricane. jeez the rest of the country tires of you so fast.

Okay...the timing of this whole thing is messing with my head...we're in the process of moving our servers from Maryland to TX...I guess the little co-lo box died at an appropriate time. I wish all you guys in the path of this beast the best of luck. People were pretty tense around here for a few days until the projected path changed.

yeah, canceled my reservations to NJ paintball for saturday. I wonder what playing with 50 mph winds would be like. Probly like playing basketball on jupiter.

Winds are currently 30 to 50 MPH with gust to 65, rain sounds like gravel being thrown at the house, I work in the utility industy and the boss is already seeing dollar signs...Wooo freaken Hoooo! I will probably end up working all dang weekend because of this, heck one telephone pole has already snapped in half right across the street from the house earlier today.

Wow....an overly professed thunderstorm. In New Bern we had maybe a few trees down, a powerline or two. A bit of flooding not alot. I've seen alot worse from Northeasterns than i have from Isabel. But i think we were lucky. Sounds like maybe a few other places got alot of really bad flooding.
