It's nice and all that everyone is praising them as usual. But what the hell is going on with the fades? It better be a bad picture, cause almost every fade looks as if the color of the front doesn't come to a finish till it hits the barrel and that's how they turned out someone should have to answer for this.

Lets take for example this one. I hope you don't call this a three color fade. Do you realize one of the first things everyone does is put on a different barrel? How can you consider the barrel part of the fade, it should be a straight color to match the end fade color only.

Well first of all ya never know with these X mags. I do know these went to PK so they should be pretty good. And don't assume anything from pictures and miss matched layed out parts.

Also some of these are no doubt Team Markers and they get color options we normal people do not get.

Just wait and see. We get some closer looks at them when they start assembly and the pieces are matched up a little better. I see a lot of things laying next to things they do not go with.

I'm not saying it looks like junk...just that it's not quite what I had anticipated. I know PK can't read my mind and so I'm not faulting them but based on what I had submitted my color choice as I don't see it as being what I had asked for. I'm not throwing my hands up like a two-year old and saying I don't want it, but I'm kind of putting it out there for those with delusions of grandeur that you may not get your marker exactly the way you thought of it in your head. That's life...you either deal..or you go buy a Spyder...

hehe... well actually there is no realy way to know we have even seen your Marker. There were like 75 markers in this batch. And I do not see that many in the pictures. But if I was to guess and its one of them then I would guess it was that top one of the two that seem to be Flat Black fronts to Blue Backs in Dust finish. I cannot tell if they both the same and its different light or what.

However I agree its not what I call Royal deep blue when it came out in that dust finish. However I have no idea what that would look like in dust finish from the get go and of course no one else did either. I do not believe it has been done before. It perhaps is a deep as they can get in that dust finish? Might be a limitation? I do not know. But I know we asked for Deep Royal Blue in Dust and no thats not realy what I imagined it would be either. I thought it might be at least a shade or two deeper than that myself.

Lets see if we can get Gunga to get a closer better shot of those tomorrow for us.

well just to throw it out there, color interpretations are very hard to make. And If you got a blue to black fade marker after asking for "Royal blue", be happy. Royal blue is closer to purple than blue in the True Royal blue color. But it has been tainted by clothes manufacturers that cannot reproduce the colors on fabric, so that is there "royal blue". Basically what im saying is, If you ordered a car in royal blue, without selecting a color chip, you might as well pick purple. So be happy that it actually looks blue.

No that would be completely wrong. Royal Blue is indeed one of the Medium blues.

And deep means a shade darker. Like Navy or even Midnight Blue. Royal is not close to purple at all. Not even in the slightest.

Try this color wheel and hold your marker over Royal Blue... Then look for a shade deeper. About what these show as Navy. Somewhere in there.

Its no where near purple... not at all.... but it may be close to what these are looking like in the right light when you figure in the dust part of the color selection and how it looks in pictures and certain light.

Well it does wash out in the lighting on the front one but you can see it in the rear one that is not so direct in the light. Its showing the fade in better on that back one.

I dunno. I would expect the fade to change around the feed module. And even though its progressive I would not expect it to start that soon either. I would have expected it to realy start getting into transgression around the tip of the body myself. I realy would like to see them without that artifical bright assembly light on them. The back one looks more like it and I am under the impression they are the same. But it sure looks a lot different when the one is out under the lights like that doesn't it?

ok well on my monitor it comes off with a little purple ;)

but anyhow, if you look at the royal blue anno of the ir3's it is a purplish blue, there is a hue of purple to it... but oh well

Ok if you go back and realy look at all the ones that fade from black in the front they all start fading on the barrel in this batch. To a middle color that is both colors used and then to the final full color after the feed module. Almost a triple fade on all of them with the middle section being a blend of the two colors. Not what we were seeing earlier batches. A much longer fade in of the two color blends than before. And of course some of the earlier ones realy had no fade at all. Just boom...one color to another. But these are ALL different the way they are faded. The reverse is true on the ones that fade to black in the rear. But even then there is some subtle change way earlier. Go back and study those first pictures Tom posted and tell me it aint so.

I kinda see that too.They start like a black,dark gray and seem to fade to a lighter grey/silver and then into the blue.Most of it does seem to happen on the barrel though.It's hard to tell with the battery packs laying down.I'd like to see one with the parts oriented correctly.'Course I'd like to see mine in a box on my doorstep.:D

Hey...that #17 doesn't mean I'm getting valve number #317 does it? and btw, if it doesn't matter can I have the back of the two blue-black ones on the table...I like how in that one it seems to be more black in the battery pack and not gray like the front one (unless of course that's from the artificial lighting as Cphil had suggested).

Am I disappointed...eh...it's hard for me to really say at this point. I was hoping for a little richer blue with a little more hue to it but if that's as deep and rich of a color they can get on a dust who am I to argue with PK. We always have our dream marker looking a lot different in our heads than what can be produced and I understand that. It's trying to tweak my dream to match the reality is what's hard.

and I started the purple/blue debate...muhahahahhaaha(evil mad scientist laugh)

Well guys I don't know what to tell you. We told PK what you told us. There is no better than PK so its not like we have a bunch of choices.

The dust black to blue is not totally black in the front. They seemed to work the barrels into the fades in this batch. It might be how the styles are running these days. If anyone really hates it you can switch to the next batch but its going out this week so speak up now.

Well I am pretty positive my marker is number 6, the Gold to Silver fade. I had expected my marker to look like the one in this marker

in a sence. I had asked where the fade would start and thought he said just after the warp insert area..

Well it looks to me that the whole marker is all gold and only the barrel is a fade.

I expected the silver to start at or before the barrel since I have 2 silver annoed Barrels. Now it will look like a Gold gun with a Silver Barrel.

I am sticking with the marker since I waited and can work with what I get.

Does anyone know how much it costs to get a Gold to Silver anno done on a Barrel, or even just a gold anno done?

I think mine is #18 which should be Black to Silver but it seems to be Black to pewter to clear/light silver which I think is pretty cool.It's hard to tell 'cause in pic one the barrel looks totally black and in pic #3 it seems to fade on the barrel so who knows.At least "most" of the fade happens around the battery which I kinda like.I'm not sure what's going to happen if I change barrels but there will still be a fade on the body.I guess we'll see.

I can see why AGD only did solid colors for the first few batches. So they wouldn't have to put up with all this damn whining.

If you order a gun from WDP, do they call you for your custom anno? No they slap whatever they have in the warehouse in a box and ship it to you.

I have never ordered a Angel from WDP so I'm not 100% sure.... I can see that being the case though.

Anyways, to sum up my rambling quit whining. You are getting what you asked for. If it's not what you like sell it, and get a cookie cutter Angel or Intimidator.

And I couldn't disagree with you more. If you're comparing the X-Mag to an Angel you're more mistaken than you ever want to realize. Call Cobra Paintball and order a Custom Mamba Ir3 and then have the gun come in and look like puke. I'm darn well not going to accept it and neither would you but that's acceptable from AGD? By the way you talk I can tell you've never ordered a marker from a custom gun shop. X-Mags are a custom built and anno'd to order marker. Paying what they did for a marker, the main attraction of which (in comparison to the E-mag) is its LOOKS, I think they're entitled to expect that when they ask for a "fade", what they recieve will fit the universally accepted definition of a fade. I have not seen anything in the thread that could really be called whining. People expressing their concern, certainly, but no whining.

I am frankly completely bewildered as to why a company with as much annoing experience as PK would think that a fade should start on the barrel. I would think that something like that would be done only on express, 2x clarified instruction, and even then with a :confused:. As was previously stated, t'is a rare person indeed who leaves the stock barrel on such a gun. The only way I could see them doing that would be if the gun came with a high quality aftermarket barrel, and.. even then..

I feel bad for Tom even more than for the people who are getting these.. I imagine he had no more reason to expect this than they did. PK owes him an explanation, which I would imagine he has plans of getting.

besides the solid colors (just like black and silver, pewter) I am not really digging a lot of the different anno's fades only a few I kind of like... oh well :) some of them are just like... why??? :) hehe but heh thats why everyone is different

Well, I dunno much about the fades, I've read everones complaintes about the fades being wrong and the colors being off and I still think they are pretty cool looking. But I'm not a big fan of PK. I'll never forget the reply to my polite inquiry about haveing an E-mag reanodized... I asked about 6 questions and I got a E-mail with 4 caracters in it. "350$" Which answered one of the 6 questions and the second E-mail was ignored. So it doesn't surprise me that AGD is having trouble with them.

PK is a great company, they are probably one of the best companies for large anodizing orders. The thing is they do not focus primarily on paintball in the first place so its not really their top priority. They are set up mainly for large bulk jobs... ah well

Was it just me, or am I stupid (could be possible) that there is an actual three color fade on the body...the barrel is part of the anno but there is still a 3 fade (clear, to light blue, to dark blue) Like yours DB, the barrel fades from blue to clear, but the body is clear/blue/blue. j/w

Well..you can go through one of the many dealers here on AO or you can go ahead and order it from AGD themselves. You're looking at anywhere from a 6-12 month wait for one just be advised. As for a three-color fade, short of "team guns", AGD has not accepted any orders for three-color fades (i.e. a Silver-Blue-Black fade...believe me...i was the first to ask) but it doesn't hurt to ask...
