AO Design Team,

Here is the first look at the new rail based on your sugestions. We have not lightened the insides yet so just ignore that part. I think this is going to work with the Warp ULE bodies.

TK, can you do a quick assembly with a body on there so we can see how it turns out?

TK,

Do you plan to do more with the ends of the rails?

Excellent look. When I build my next mechanical MAG, ULE'ed by the way, this will definitely be the look to have with the ULE body. Additionally, does this rail allow for clearance of the Warp ULE Body? Just checkin.... Lookin good TK.

somethings wrong, it doesnt seem to flow properly, maybe its the wings in the front, maybe it'll grow on me like the x body did.

The rail looks really nice. I can't wait to see it finished.

i would like to see a little more rounding or something in the front....but other than that it looks very nice

Very very nice, only comment I have is that I do not like the flat ends on it.

i was hoping to see jams design made......:(

I agree. It looks really good, but the flat ends should be finished some how. Maybe make them meet flush with a ULE body on it. I dont like how most of the newer custom Mags have that stepped front end look. (From rail to ULE body to barrel)

So was this created in a bizarre 'smelting accident'?

Looks good. Looks sturdy. Looks like the milling won't gouge the customers like some of the requests suggested would.

Looking good.. I agree, too.. I don't like how the ends are square - any way to make it flow more with the body/frame?

Actually I think this was one of JAM's first designs...

**Edit** oops it would help if I read all of the thread first ***Edit***

My thoughts:

I like it... "sorta Spoonish"

I hereby dub it "Spoon Rail"

I like it, some of those designes were tacky. Can't wait for a prototype.

About how much will these new rails cost? Its the last thing I need to "finish" (You can never finish..) my Mini.

Also looks nice. I like it a lot.

if your gonna make a whole new rail, it'd be nice to have a place for some internal macroline or something

i think he means kinda like how the oldschool rts are made.

DiRTyBuNNy
09-23-2003, 01:48 PM
you mean how the original RT's are made? umm...because...that...well...wasn't as flexible a setup as what we have now?

Jerhew
09-23-2003, 03:09 PM
looks good...im glad you kept it relatively simple...
id have to agree with the_next_guy, some of the other ideas were a bit tacky...this one is pretty elegant and again probably won't cost an arm and a leg because of all the rediculous milling it could've had

did you/could you attempt to move the foregrip forward an inch or so?
i know the rail would have to be longer and ya it might weigh an extra gram(sighs)
but that'd be really sweet...
im sure y and z grip owners would really appreciate the extra room as well

Well, you sold me. Just as long as the price is right :p
Don't make it too exotic as to make them too expensive and hard to get. I like it the way it is.

LJT
09-23-2003, 11:47 PM
Is there any idea of what the price will be? Personally, while the design is nice, I don't want something so complicated that it is too expensive. I will not be buying one if they are near $100. That is simply too much for looks.

Updated pics. I rounded the front and added a mock up body for comparison. Only problem is that the wings stick out right under the feed tube and might cause a problem.

been lookin at the new art for 10 minutes or so and im still not feeling the front wings, although the body does smooth out the lines a bit. maybe scrap the front wings and put a long teardrop there instead?

might look better without the front wings

AGREED!!!

up^ for warp right bodies!!!

The rail looks good...I personally like the front wings...it gives it a finished look. With the whole 'wing' thing being just on the back on Emags and RT pros...I just associate that now w/ getting them milled off and just a burden to the rail...so having the double set of wings adds the elegance of design, not just something that adds weight.

I think your missing one of the cuts of from this rail... it looks alot like the one that JAM submitted and I retouched.

NICE!! VERY NICE!!

the question is when can we buy it?

LJT
09-24-2003, 04:28 PM
Several people have said this already, but I really don't like the looks of the front wings. I thinks it would look better if you lost them and tapered the front instead. This would also solve any warp problems.

Evil Bob
09-24-2003, 04:39 PM
Lose the front wings.

remember that using the warp ULE you are forced to use a 90 degree adapter. After looking at this I am certain that the wing will be easliy covered by the warp adapter and thus not an issue.

I for one think the wings add to the flow of the rail

dansim
09-24-2003, 04:49 PM
okay honestly now with the front wings and after flipping through people(alison's not mine) it looks like a maxi pad sorry:(

Mr.Minus
09-24-2003, 05:04 PM
i dont like the wings too much...i love the teardrop idea...and i thought i saw a custom rail before that was smoother that i really liked too

i think the wings WOULD get in the way actually. if they were that SIZE.
maybe making them smaller, so the adapter will clear the wing, yet, the rail is still keeping its design

what about notching the back by the valve similar to jam's design?

FooTemps
09-24-2003, 05:32 PM
i'm not digging the dual wings... jam made a similar one with rounded front and only rear wings. that one looked awesome. You could also do front wings only, but you'd have to modify the design quite a bit to make it look good.

trevorjk
09-24-2003, 06:17 PM
sorry i dont have any nice programs so if some one could redo this please do so..... this is taken from jams design

so now let me explain what ive done...

first i took the back wings off and replaced them with small flowing curves rather then wings to me it flows better with the whole gun

second instead of making the dip were the rear wing was i would flatten that off to add to those curves

third in my opinion just stoping on the front of the rail with a big round block of metal looks like crap so what i did i tapered off the front kinda like devil horns but of course they would be rounded off to look good

and thats basically it

if some one could take my pictures of jams work and redo them to look all nice please do so but heres what ive done and i think this is by far the coolest one ive seen so far cuase its freeflowing and relatively simple

i agree, lose the frone wings, and smooth it out somehow flowing or put a teardrop in.

nerobro
09-24-2003, 07:22 PM
Now that's downright sexy. This is something that could make me drop the micromag. A ule body on one of those rails would be a really nice looking setup....... *drools* Yet another gun I need to save up for :-(
