I know you will but ignore Crazylad...the VR6 version is rather rapid. Just in case anyone starts jumping in with tech figures...under normal use not racing that is one pocket rocket.

I was never really exposed to the GTI's till a friend of mine bought one of the 337's. Since then i have fell in love with the GTI and Jetta lines from vw. BTW, his 337 is now pushing 350hp and he is looking into lockers cause his current diff just can handle it:)

the vr6 may seem better, but the 1.8t is actaully the better car. its lighter, and with a few $$$ can be much more powerfull.

vr6 is still good though.

Although it might make more power, a "hot" 350 will make more power than a 454, the 454 makes it @2,000rpm, allowing you to use much more of the power. The 1.8t will make most of its horespower RIGHT before redline, negating most of its effectiveness in everyday driving, or in autox, road race, ect.

You also don't have to worry about turbo lag.

really just preference i guess, thats why they have both avalible i guess.

I had to listen to a mechanic lecture for about two hours on why a 427 was better than the 454, so I don't want one anymore. This is the same guy who the day I got my explorer took three hours explaining why ford had problems, and why I should buy a dodge.

No way! Ford is cool, because they have more elves - also, the 454 is better.

(I have no idea, I am not even partial to domestics)

Would you like to explain why the 454 is better? A 426 hemi is more powerfull that the 454 and a 427.

I was kidding more or less, don't read much on muscle cars or their engines, just used the large v8 vs. smaller v8 in my comparison of 1.8t/vr6.

Pyro, a stock 426 is not more powerfull than a stock 454. In 1970 a Chevelle SS equiped with a LS6 454 rolled out of the factory with 450 horsepower on tap. Thats stock from the factory and it was a car in regular production, not just one of a handfull of special editions or one-offs. Any regular production Mopar rollin' out of the plant during 1970 with the "King Kong" 426 Hemi had 425 horses under the hood period. The actual horsepower of both engines was very underated for insurance purposes and of course you can tweek all of these engines into insane levels of performance that make the "stock power" arguement a moot point.
