Tom,

Looks great, but could we see a pic with a vert ULE or a stock body to see more of that rail? Thanks for continuing to advance your wonderful product line. No wonder I have 4 mags...

The back looks good, how about an underside shoot?

but the front doesn't quite look right.

Toms got a stiffi!!!, and for christ sake don't every one go running out to buy a stiffi just because Tom has one.

P.S. I have a stiffi too

GoatBoy
10-02-2003, 04:33 PM
I don't like the way it doesn't mate up with the body in a smoother fashion.

Renegade, I think you forgot about the z-lock.

Muzikman
10-02-2003, 04:36 PM
I agree with GoatBoy...there is something about the way it mates up with the body...the two just don't look like they fit together.

Fanatic
10-02-2003, 04:37 PM
well here is my view..

i like it some what
i jus dont like how sexay the bodies tubular form than BAM!
flat! where the body hit the rail

maybe a little material to hug the body a little
so it will look more blended in together...form fit like?!

not so that the material will go all the way up to where it wont work with warp breeches and such

..maybe just the angles of the pix

damn cataracts
where are my dang herb medicine!!

10-02-2003, 04:44 PM
Sweet!!! and the purple body doesn't hurt either ;)

My only beef is where the Vert adapter meets the rail, the rail seems to be a bit smaller that the vert adapter. It looks like there is a bit of a lip from the vert. Other than that.. you get a big thumbs up!!!

nuclear zombie
10-02-2003, 04:51 PM
The rail looks nice , but it really doesn't go well with the ule body . I think that a rail with the sides shaved down would look better with the ULE body.

rikkter
10-02-2003, 05:07 PM
i dig it, just not the front portion of it. it just seems out of place with the rest of the design of the rail

Fanatic
10-02-2003, 05:17 PM
i think it would totaly look sexay it the rail molded enough to the body that it may look like one whole piece
oohh...only one could dream.

and yea..the front where it just...there!?!?
mold that little puppy to extend then up to the body...hehe..
hey tom get some clay and mold it in thar!!

Its different.... but I personally don't like how it creates/exadgerates the space between a round body and a flat rail. I have to say that I like other rails with the ULE body much better.

*edit* I do like how the back of the rail sweeps up after the thumbscrew to meet the valvebody.. that does looke very cool.

looks ULEET( ultra Leet engineering) :D

davidnj
10-02-2003, 07:26 PM
It's 10000 times better than the stock rail...but it doesn't flow into the ULE body well. The back of it looks really good but I'm not sure I like the front.

Unlike all the other ULE products, I don't think I'd buy this in its current form.

Sweep the sides up into the body to make the body and rail mate together and it would look a lot better.

10-02-2003, 09:24 PM
The front of the rail, near the ASA, needs to be more fit to the shape of the body IMO.

Tom,
I actually think that the roguefactor rail looks better.
Sorry.

luke

I don't really like it. The rail just doesn't go with that body....

Cilio - Knightmare Tango
10-02-2003, 09:42 PM
I'd like it to mate with the body better also, kind of looks like it's sitting on a shelf a little.

Dave
10-02-2003, 09:56 PM
As of right now, I would NOT buy one>>>

It looks way too choppy. The back has a nice flow, and then it goes totally flat in the center.

The front curve kinda got 'destroyed' due to it having to be taken down somewhat to get it past the ULE warp body, therefore looks bubbly.

The other people are totally right, it looks like a round body sitting on some kind of flat panel...it doesn't match the roundness of the tube at all. Especially right there by the feed tube.

Suggestions: Try to get the rail flowing, and don't sacrifice the front curve to get it to fit...just simply mate it closer to the ULE body, and you should be able to still maintain the original curve designed for the front of it.

-Dave

Agree with everyone else...it's nice...but a little too bulky. Maybe a more streamlined look that compliments the body better.

I don't like it. Someone one this thread I think hit the nail on the head when he said it looks like the ULE Body is sitting on top of a shelf. Kinda like fitting a square peg in a circle. Doesn't fit.

My thoughts exactly.

AGD
10-03-2003, 01:09 AM
The hump in the front has to stay, it provides the front alignment for the body. I am not going to take much criticism here because you all voted for this design before it went into proto. If you realy hate it I will go back to the stock straight rail and forget about it. We are out of rails so a new design has to live or die right now.

TK, I think if you gave the front of the rail a more angular, or even elongated like an ellipse, rather than the half-circle on it now would fit in more with the 'feel' of the rail.

xatle
10-03-2003, 02:25 AM
i cant think of any reasonable improvements, assuming your trying to keep the cost in the same neiborhood as the old style stock rails.
its light, warp ule friendly, and has a nice shape to it, send it to production.

Tom, do you have stereolithography equipment in-house?

For some reason, the gray rail looks better than the yellow rail. :p

Rail looks good!

EDIT:

I am assuming that the new rail will use RT style foregrips that use two-hole style mounting. Will the vertical adaptors be compatible with using one of these holes? For some reason the rail reminds me of the Tu-144.

It's significantly better than the stock rail, I would buy one. The latest picture does seem to make the center look like it's in tighter to the body, which looks better.

I actually like this design better than the original one with the duplicate/more pronounced front wing.

Doobie
10-03-2003, 07:32 AM
I like it just fine. What some of you fail to remember is that this will be the new stock rail. It is meant to be in the same price range as the current stock rail while being lighter and having a custom look to it. As a stock rail it rocks!
If AGD wanted, I'm sure they could make some sort of uber-rail that would be flat out sexsay...but it would probably cost near $100.
Good looks (way better than the current one)
Same price range (i think?)
Good product in my opinion.
:)

JEDI
10-03-2003, 08:22 AM
It looks good now that you thinned it. It matches better.

Tom we understand what you go through for us, but why do you always sound like a whining child when you don't get the response you anticipated? Computer drawings don't do a design justice. You have to expect a different response when you show us the actual product.

You think rail designs are hard? Try selling a 6000 square foot house drafted in 2D on paper.

Eric Cartman
10-03-2003, 09:04 AM
The more I look at it, the more it grows on me. I think the thinned down version is a winner. It'll look very sweet on my all black mag. How much for one of these? I hope Tom brings some to Skyball so I won't have to screw around with shipping.
For those who aren't quite satisfied (and who have the money to spend)you could always get some more custom milling done to get it just the way you like it. I think Doobie nailed it when he mentioned that this is a replacement STOCK rail. For a stock rail, this thing rocks.

Peace.

10-03-2003, 09:05 AM
Looks much better with the reduced step. If flows more now into the ULE body. Doen't look like it's on a shelf any more. Still not sure if I would purchase it. Maybe with some type of sluggo body that would follow the flow with the rail. jmo.

Maybe it is not perfect, but I think that it is an improvement over the current stock design. I'd go with it for now and maybe tinker with it a little more for future rails. The truth is that it is going to be impossible to please everyone with one design. This rail is definately a step in the right direction.

D-

LJT
10-03-2003, 05:34 PM
Two things:

1. The rail looks ok as is except for the front. It needs to be smoothed or something. On the current design it looks like an after thought.

2. What happened to Ultra Light Engineering. This rail looks bigger that the normal one. I guess it might weigh less. However, I would rather have something simple with the point being to remove as much weight as possible.

rogues rail is for its useage with a wide range of AGD products., this is just a rail AGDs making thats better than the stock rail.

i'd hate to see TK drop this.

granted rogue has put some milling like the omega has, which made it look a lot better, i'm just the type that doesn't want thigns that dont need to be there if i dont use them, as all the holes is in the rail for its versatility(sp?)

great design on that second one, would the anno be the same as the ule bodies? i would assume so

TheJester

i would make the front end curve up around the body, and have it angle up to meat flush with the body in the front. i think the rounded front looks kinda ugly

Crimson_Turkey
10-05-2003, 12:13 AM
I think if there were some sort of sight rail that could attach at the wing it would loose alot of the "shelf" effect. Right now the rail is just alot wider than the body and this could help.

All in all. I want.

I think Tom is on the right track. For me however, it would not inspire me to buy one simply to replace what I already have… they are just too similar (with wings.. sure the new one is more “modern” and “sleek” looking, but they give me the same basic feel). As the new stock rail though (for all NEW markers) I see it as a good thing.

And unlike some, I am not all that worried about weight…. No, to be honest I am not worried AT ALL about weight. ;) So for me, it is all about looks. I don’t get all “ohhh” and “ahhh” about parts of markers that I can NOT see (such as all the internal material removable)… I understand why folks do, but I just don’t.

I do however see a slight problem heading our way…. parts matching up visually. Until AGD gets their new stock rail design finished (if this will indeed be the new stock rail) the folks making after market bodies are at a disadvantage when designing their parts. And those bodies that are currently designed to work nice (visually) with the current stock rails, or ULE rails, may not work so well with the new stock rail. (I hope folks see where I am going with this.)

We don’t want (or at least I don’t want) 500 new parts that all look great until you start slapping them together. Some folks may not mind the clearly mix and matched look, but I like everything to flow together.

Shartley, I agree, Tom is on the right track. While for you weight is not a big factor, there are alot of players who are clamoring for lighter & lighter markers and are willing to pay premium prices for them. The Angel Speed, IR4 and CNC X-mag are a case in point of how the industry is responding to consumer demand. Why just within the mag family several companies are producing/rushing competing main body styles after polling AO members as to what they want. Another example of filling a niche is "The RogueWorks".
I doubt seriously that the Tom would leave the folks who are making aftermarket parts out in the cold. While you want parts that flow together you aught to give the consumer some credit. If the parts look slapped together do you really think AGD has a monoply on the "Rail" market?
