I always thought that RP Schere(sp?) was a pharmaceutical company that happened to have an encapsulating machine?

RP Scherer is an company that works for the pharmaceutical and other industries, they specialize in encapsulation. They do stuff like gelcaps, liquicaps, bath beads, etc. (I heard that paintballs and bath beads are the same size because RPS already had the machines, but that may not be true.)

The intimation was that prices were going to keep going down on paint and therefore the profit. And that concentrating on their core biz is where the real money is. This person had heard that RPS was looking to sell thier factory(ies).
Again, this is just what I had heard.

My GUESS, but I would imagine a good one, would be that PMI contracts out their paintball manufacturing to RPS, in much the same manner that AGD and other companies have their milling done for them. In which case I would GUESS that RPS can stop making paintballs whenever they feel like it, without really taking a hit as long as they keep making their medicinal/other products. I hope this rumor is pure BS though, I like RPS paint, just like most people do.

<b>Pursuit Marketing Inc acquires R.P. Scherer paintball manufacturing
division from Cardinal Health Inc.

Pursuit Marketing Inc (PMI) of Des Plaines, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, announced
their acquisition of the R.P. Scherer paintball division. The purchase includes various
proprietary paintball patents and trademarks as well as a state of the art paintball manufacturing
facility located in Clearwater, Florida from Cardinal Health of Dublin, Ohio.

Cardinal Health Inc acquired R.P. Scherer Corporation, the world's largest producer of soft
gelatin capsules ("softgels"), with a global network of 19 facilities in 12 countries, in late 1998
and has since operated the paintball division under the name RPS Recreational Products.

PMI has owned the exclusive North American marketing and distribution rights for
R.P. Scherer paintballs since 1989. The R.P. Scherer (RPS) brand continues to be recognized
as the most consistent high quality paintball sold anywhere in the world. PMI markets and
distributes RPS paintballs under various trademarked brand names including Marballizer,
Evil, SuperSwirl, All Star, Flash, Midevil, Polar Ice, PMI Premium and Big Ball; fromeight
distribution facilities strategically located throughout North America and a new company owned
facility located near London, England.

The acquisition of R.P. Scherer paintball manufacturing business completes PMI’s vertical
integration strategy. PMI also manufactures the popular Piranha line of paintball markers,
industry leading Pure Energy air systems and a full line of Extreme Rage paintball accessories
including the new X-Ray 2.0 Goggle system and Extreme Rage Bullet Paqs. In addition,
PMI is the leading “wholesale only” source for many other popular brands of paintball equipment
to the majority of commercial paintball fields, pro-shops and sporting goods retailers in North America.

PMI pioneered the sport and business of Paintball Games starting in 1982 and continues to
be the industry leader in the building of consumer awareness of the fastest growing extreme
sport in the world.

I think he was proving a point. He had posted a rumor, and everyone started mocking him. Turns out he was right. He's earned the right to toot his own horn a little.

BS.

Bigball wholesale is 28 a case + shipping, most places sell for at LEAST 60 a case. It doesn't take 28 bucks to make 2000 paintballs and package them up.
