HEADED TOWARDS THE EARTH AND IS EXPECTED TO REACH EARTH FRIDAY
AFTERNOON OCTOBER 24, 2003. THERE IS A POSSIBILITY OF OUTAGES
AND INTERRUPTIONS OF CELL PHONE AND PAGER SERVICE BECAUSE OF
ELECTROMAGNETIC INTERFERENCE. SATELLITES ARE ALSO VERY VULNERABLE
TO SOLAR ACTIVITY. SOLAR ACTIVITY IS RATED ON A SCALE OF 1 TO 5
WITH 5 BEING THE MOST INTENSE. THE STORM APPROACHING IS
EXPECTED TO BE A 3, OR MODERATE.

Yours? Probably.... take cover immediately. I suggest you walk around the rest of the day with a Large Aluminum Colander on your head. That should diffuse it. And send us a picture of that would ya?

My cell phone is working just fine...Or is this one of those deals like y2k, where its no big deal, but they make it seem as though it is?

No, there is a major sunspot group on the sun that had a very sizeable coronal mass ejection a couple of days ago.

One thing it can do is knock out power grids. It can also cause electrical problems with satellites, cell phone towers, and tv signals.

For the most part though it'll just cause some minor interference in radio devices.

On the plus side, usually when you get activity of this magnitude, you get an unusually high lever of coronal activity.

this means go out when it's dark and if it's clear, look north, you may get to see a very good Aurora Borealis(northern lights) display.

Damn solar storms always comming down here and messing with us, why cannot they just stay in space? :)
Maybie it will change the orbit of the earth and send us directly into the sun?

Man, I was wondering why my cell phone exploded

Hmm, exploding cell phones, I think some countries use those to get rid of people they don't like.

It may also make wireless internet connectivity a bit more spotty as it may cause possible interference.

True, we only have what a few billion years before the sun goes through its dying star thing, gets really big and we all die anyway.

Whoa now... lets get a little softer, you dont want your agression getting to you that much. Does the sun have a choice? Maybe... but can you do anything about it? No, so just calmly let the sun know that you dislike its actions and you want to work things out. If it responds with a particularily intense solar flare, flip it off

Dude, flipping off the sun is just stupid... you NEED the sun, okay?? As much as you might try and deny it, you are NOTHING without big mr. sunshine coming up every morning. Now... the sun has no incentive whatsoever to feel the same way about you. You're just another worthless sunlight-guzzling, intollerant, ungrateful sack of vitamin K that occasionally wears a pair of sunglasses, pissing off that sun guy just that much more.

Hmph.
