View Full Version : 2005 Ford Mustang dash cluster

Mango

Best looking dash cluster I've seen in a loong time.

The all-new 2005 Ford Mustang will feature an industry-first color-configurable instrument cluster so customers can light their gauges in any of 125 unique colors. Like its unmistakable exterior, Mustang's dramatic new cockpit will turn heads and raise the standard for muscle car interiors just as the new F-150 has done for pickups. Ford and worldwide enthusiasts will celebrate the car's 40th Anniversary on April 17, 2004. The new 2005 Mustang will go on sale in the Fall of 2004.

Very Retro!

They kind of look like the instruments of my dad's 66 convertible Stingray.

When i was buying my first car i was stuck between a 69 GT with the 305 or a 71 Mach1 with the 351c......God i loved those cars.

I really like the look of that dash. Looks oldschool without trying to extremely modernize it. Definately a big plus for Ford on this one.

from what i have heard, the production models shouldnt be to far off of what the concepts look like, the only major diffrence is supposed to be the door handles, but things may have changed since last i heard

That thing is freaking awesome. A muscle car isn't supposed to be bubbly and organic.

The '93 Mustangs where awesome, the boxy look is key.

No pics of the new one, only ye olde 289 :D Now it's got Heads, cam, intake 351 :D There's about 1/8 inch of clearance under there. Gonna be tearing it out again over winter though as it's getting some new parts, etc.

Right now I'm looking at an svt focus for a winter beater.

It just flat out irritates me that Ford continues to use "L-H" gauges for the oil pressure, voltmeter and temperature. I could care less if it's Low or High, I would like to see NUMBERS. I guess for the typical "dumb" consumer, it's enough to satisfy their needs that the gauge needle is running in the middle, but I and plenty of other people that know a bit more than the average consumer would like to see numbers on the gauges. For all intents and purposes they might as well be "idiot lights" since all they show you is that it isn't too low or too high. At least Dodge and Chevy continue to use numbers on most of their gauges.

Just another thing about Ford engineering that annoys me.

PyRo
11-06-2003, 08:43 PM
See, Ford does stink :)
I could see the low-high not being much of an annoyance in a family car (expecially since damned if I ever own a Ford Tortis :)), but not in a sports car or a truck that is going to be put to work.

scott that vette is gorgeous!! Do you know if thats the L36 or the L72 engine? When you want to take a spin in a REAL big block lemme know. :p :D That 4 barrel holley is nice, but 6 is better!! lol

http://mywebpages.comcast.net/jtrussell7/6pack.jpg

upwards of 1100 CFM's of induction when all 6 are open! EARTH SHATTERING! :D

And the 435 HP rating is wrong, try more like 500+

LOL Mango!

Wait till I post pictures of the rest. He also has a 71 big block that rocks the house!

Your engine looks sweet, but I still like the ZR-1 the best. Before my brother and I took it out to play Sunday, Dad gave us the valet key so that we could run it at full power! Very scary fast!!:D

Mango
11-06-2003, 10:47 PM
Heck yeah, ZR-1's are so nice. All that modern suspesion components and such. That is a great collection. I'd love to see it sometime. I've never been inside a ZR-1. :(

1stdeadeye
11-06-2003, 10:57 PM
My Dad is real cool about them.

You would just have to tag along with me to MD sometime. Maybe to play at a Pev's AG game or something.

My only problem with the ZR-1 is the seats. They have more controls then a rocket ship. Getting my fat butt comfy is not easy in that car. For comfort, his 2001 is the bomb. It is like riding in a normal car.

Downside to the ZR-1: Custom tires that are uber-expensive, lighting them up usually ends the day of joy riding if my Dad catches us doing it!

When I come back from Thanksgiving down there, I'll post the whole collection. Except the 77 vette, that one is actually in Mays Landing, NJ getting a frame off paint job. New Gel coat and everything.

JT who does your body work on your vette? The guy in Mays Landing is incredible. He is a few miles from the rest stop exit off the AC Expressway. He did my Dad's 58 to perfection. When the 77 is done, the 64 goes up.

Mango
11-06-2003, 11:08 PM
Wow I would kill to see this collection! A guy in Maryland actually did the paint on our vette. He does lots of NCRS vettes so we wanted it done to spec for that. It cost my dad a rediculous amount but we think it was worth it. This guy knows all the tricks. But it's good to know there is someone close!

Was it Tony's Corvettes in Gaithersburg, MD?

He is good, but I have to give you the guy in Mays Landings info. He is awesome! Unfortunatly he is also very slow!:(

No not Tonys. This guy just does one car at a time. He is not really a business. Just does it in his backyard shop that he built for himself and gets business by word of mouth. This guy took almost 8 months too. Very slow. LOL

OMG!! LOL!!

So is the Mays Landing guy!

He has a steel building behind his home where he does all the work. He did a full frame off on the 58. He even rebuilt the 58's automatic tranny.

You anti-ford guys sure do find some stupid things to complain about. I realize in alot of newer cars the gauges are merely a dummy light in analog gauge form, but geez man, picky picky. The difference in those gauges is 2 letters versus a number or three. I guarantee that most the other brand new cars with numbers instead of letters are inaccurate as far as the ACTUAL value of the number versus that which is indicated on the gauge. So really what's the point of numbers instead of letters.

If you have such a high performance finnicky setup that these dummy gauges don't do it for you, then you know as well as I do that you should be running some high price aftermarket gauges and sending units to get some real numbers. For just about any car off the showroom floor, this is just not needed. Besides, they did it to go retro with the cluster. my 66 has letters as well. Ohhhhhh noooo.

I suppose you'd like "actual gallons remaining" on your fuel gauge as well?

AMEN! The oil guage in our 67 vette has pressure numbers, but it is pretty useless because it changes by what the motor is doing (obviously) so it flys all over the place. My dad installed an oil temp guage (which is much more useful) but we had to take it out because it was not stock or an option.

scott: haha thats great! I definetly need his info just in case we need something touched up or what have you. We had no idea someone so close did such a thing.

My jeep had one of those I think, also calculated the MPG, a miles to empty tank :) It was kind of nice.

animal
11-07-2003, 12:14 PM
I have seen these in some cadillacs too.

But it's an issue of him complaining that there's no numbers on the sweep gauges when they really aren't accurate to begin with. This example goes a little further than I was trying to point out with my reference to the fuel gauges.

PyRo
11-07-2003, 12:28 PM
Screw it, numbers are cooler than letters :)
My gauges are pretty accurate, although I don't really have a way of testing the oil pressure gauge. I know for a fact that the fuel gauges in these cars (3rd gen camaros) arn't worth a damn.

What I'm saying is that if you REALLY need to know the actual numbers, you need an aftermarket gauge and sending unit anyways. Otherwise, who cares if the needle sits between 2 numbers or 2 letters?

Hey Mango,

I just chatted with my Dad. The 66 is the L-36 4 barrel carbs putting out a rated 390 hp. It also has factory side pipes! The 71 is a 454 big block also with 4 barrel carbs.
