If you are using Windows, then Windows Media Player 9 plays DVD's, that's what I use. If you are using Mac, then there is already an app installed to play them. And just like paintballaholick said, you DO need a DVD-ROM drive to play DVD's.

you need a dvd rom drive, and i believe quicktime, realplayer, and windows media player are all capable of playing dvds

I have a DVD rom. Media player, real and quicktime won't open it though. Maybie the drivers for it are screwed up.

Still no good, went through there whole troubleshooting guide. I downloaded some DVD program once but it was a trial, atleast I know the drive works now though. I just cannot get any program to open a DVD now though.

Now I can get realyplayer to open it but I only get sound, no video.

Maybe your screen resolution is too high, lower it to something like 800x600 16bit. I know when my computer was dying on me, it would only play at this resolution. This may do the trick.

Also update the drivers for your video card. It couldn't hurt.

Tried lowering it already, when I went through there troubleshooting thing it told me to turn it down, no luck. And ive played DVD's in this resolution before, just with differant trial programs. I also updated the drivers, and windows media player, and real player, and quicktime, no go on any of them.

Noone has any ideas? I think there might be somthing wrong with my drive, my old 24x cd burner drive is much faster than my 32x dvd drive. But the sound is working and I can play with some programs
