View Full Version : Body in development from Deadlywind- Karta for Emag!

nicad

Well its about that time again.
"Karta"- This one comeing from the mad little mind of Arowmic of Team Deadlywind. This design is specifiacally made for the Emag rail.

Its still in design, which means it will be a while still before any see light.

pics: :)
(yes thats an angel trigger frame model on it. no it dosent mean anything. its just the only trigger frame model I had to slap on it to give a visual. even its still unfinished! :p )

How many passes do you estimate? Will the price be comparable to your other bodies?

How can I get one NOW?:D

That baby beats the Dalara all to pieces.

nicad
11-11-2003, 03:48 AM
price SHOULD be compairable to the Dallara.. with the exception that an Emag rail is more expensive.. and this one will take more time to carve down on the rail. more surface area to cover.

The body looks great. I'll be up for one of those + matching rail.....although I notice you've not got the sear-pin 'bump' in that pic.....I take it you'll have to leave it in place even though you're removing the wings?

Only thing I would say is - leave some clearance around the detent hole so that non-AGD detents don't foul on the curves.

just a thought.

if colin/colin's machinist can do the modular bodies and such, why not have AGD have colin/colin's machinst turn out the bodies and deliver xmags quicker..

its a though, probably poorly thought out as well

Joey d, the Xmag body is solely owned by AGD-Europe. We can't make it here.

However, Nicad obviously has the ability to design CNC programs for domestic production.......

what program do you use to design your bodies? i wish to learn how to use these programs so i can just make some designs for teh heck of it. man, all these sweet bodys, and yet theres still a VERY limited choice of triggers. if they only made a sweet blade trigger for the guns that doesnt take up much space, i might still own a mag meh

The X-Mags are made here in the UK by AGDE so Tom has no control over supply...this has been explained many times before...this is "probably" why american companies are trying to produce something to "compliment" the AGD product line.

It looks cool. I'll say that. I like OTV Over The Valve bodies, but the cuts are too deep for my $.02, the powertube half of the x-valve is still showing and the prongs on top just dont look stable enough to not be bent or broke off in a spill.
Don't get me wrong, its great work, just not my style. I still love my V2 Chord though and am waiting for an emag body match combo to get with an Emag.

Blennidae
11-11-2003, 12:48 PM
I agree with MicroMiniMe on the cuts being too deep. I saw my first X-mag in person the other day and was surprised I could see some of the brass on/off assembly.

I would prefer the OTV part not be cut back past the step in the valve. To me, with the cuts that far in hurts the overall flow. Besides, its just another place for dirt and paint to get into when playing.

thanks for the input army. what about the idea for a modular body? could that be reproduced without stepping on peoples toes? If so, I say give the go ahead to colin. he /his machinist seem to have nothing better to do than make kickass bodies :)

actually, the standards say one picture :P

nicad
11-13-2003, 06:11 PM
actually, coolcatpete, your sig is too big and breaking many of the sig rules.. two of which are:

• You are allowed ONE sig image. Not 2 or 3 small images - but ONE.

• Sig images may NOT be larger than 175 x 350 pixels. ANY image found taller than 175px or longer than 350px will be removed. Images must be under 20k. These are guidelines and it is recommend that your sig images be smaller than the maximum allowed numbers. Under 15K is prefered, and the smaller the image the better.

so, please correct your sig image(s), and lets not discusss this any further in this thread, as it is way off topic.

thanks! :)

You should make a breech for the X-mag with a removable or locking feedneck, dual detents and make quick cash.

Someone mentioned a one-piece body/rail combo. That would be so off the hook, could it be done, or are there limiting factors that make it that you have to have 2 seperate pieces?

nicad
11-14-2003, 03:42 PM
a body/rail combo would be optimal.. however getting a base to start with is the problem. There are some who make their own body/rails from scratch... but as for modifying existing professionaly made bodies, your limited to pretty much Xmag base or PTP Micromag base.

The slug on a rail affords a semi-cost effictive solution to customizing and it is actually easier to access areas of it for milling.

rikkter- I smell a Fuddruckers visit comin later today with some of the Deadlywind crew.. who knows what might come of it.. :)

I don't know how you get AGD detents off, but looking at this picture I would guess a wrench of some sort. Wouldn't the wrench hit pretty good on the raised spots.

http://deadlywind.com/karta/latest%20with%20grip3.jpg

nicad
11-14-2003, 05:56 PM
Pito-
the AGD detents are ment to be tightened with fingers.. an O-ring under them keeps them from vibrating out. Also, those in the model are just placed on there.. in reality there would be a little bit milled out around them to give some room.

Hey nicad: Maybe design a body that flows with the stock Emag rail. Something that shares simillar lines, but is more than just a tube. If it looks good, and its just a body, the cost should be minimal compared to the body/rail combo. Just a suggestion.

without modification to the rail it self for a foregrip, since the emag rails dont have the foregrip hole(battery, duh).

but then again, on the emag rails, theres no place to put the sear pin, since it uses the pin through the body deal.
plus the emag sear has a specail bearing type deal on it.
not sure if the rt pros have it or not.

but!
it does fit. and i was bored and just threw mine on my warp mag(normal classic sear), well, gassing up it leaked, so i held bolt back, then fired it withfinger out of the way, woo full auto, i wish i recorded it lol

no, what you would have to do is drill the hole for the foregrip.
there is no holes on the rail where the battery pack fits onto is on the frame.

to tell you the truth, any foregrip will look bad on a emag rail, since it'll have all the extra space.

a PTP micromag is a body/rail as one piece.. so.. yes, you could replace that one piece with whatever AGD body/rail combo, or Dallara/rail or Karta/rail.. youll need a feeedneck tho, as the ones on the micromag are not angel threaded, if removeable at all (depending on what year you have). everything else *should* just swap over.

Price!!

unless the magic pixie-faerie dust falls somehow, I would expect the Karta to be no less than the Dallara.. especially seeing as how the Emag rail is more expensive to start off with, and theres more surface area to mill/polish on it.

but.. who knows. I have some slugs and an emag rail on the way, so I should be getting a first run done soon and figure out what the final cost will be.

Great work. I have shown it to many and they love it. Expect a big demand. Besides, if it is around $240, that's only $50 more than a ULE body $150 and rail milling $40.

Hey,
I had an idea. What about milling three finger wide spaces in the battery pack from one side wrapping around to the other thus creating grips and leave it raw so it would like like an E on the sides? It would give it a black and silver look and would give something more to hold on at the same time. Might look great with a raw milled rail and save a bit of weight. Would that be hard, how long and how much would you estimate? I think that would be an awesome look with your amazing body and rail combo. The battery cover is the biggest, flatest and plain pieces on the gun. I would send a picture if I knew how.

Are you baseing the rail milling off the current AGD E-mag rail? I assume yes, but I wasn't sure if there was a change somewhere that would cause a problem like with the Dallaras

Why dont you fellas get really creative and make an imbetted body rail, its not that hard, and it will look super duper neeto torpedo....prolly weigh like 2 oz less too!

here is Nicad's comment

a body/rail combo would be optimal.. however getting a base to start with is the problem. There are some who make their own body/rails from scratch... but as for modifying existing professionaly made bodies, your limited to pretty much Xmag base or PTP Micromag base.

The slug on a rail affords a semi-cost effictive solution to customizing and it is actually easier to access areas of it for milling.

Basicaly it's a lot cheaper to start with something than nothing

Headcase is right. The emag rail has like nothing to mill. :( sluggo rail please! Makes it a lot easier to design something.

It would be cool to see a collaboration of products between AGD and nicad. Although unlikley..

But to offer an in house complete custom emag. Karta rail/body setup + AGD ULE frame(or nicad's if he makes one) and a valve all factory supported by AGD.. :)

It looks good though.

If you send in your own Emag rail, I will take off $35.

I should be starting a new thread in here and/or in the dealers area with most all these details closer to when these become available.

I cleaned out a lot of my inbox-- sorry to those who got rejected there. you can also always email me through here or directly to colin at deadlywind dot com (sorry been getting a lot of spam lately.. trying to reduce the apperance of an email address. your a human, you can figure out how to send it correctly. :) )

its pretty light. i can't give you exact weight cause i dont have a scale to do that..
the rail isn't milled in the middle to be ULE so(least mine wasn't), doing that will make it even lighter.

you will notice a incrediable difference with this body in weight. its so much lighter than when i had the old stainless steal no-rise on my emag.. i picked someones stock emag up, basically which mine was, and wow. bigggg difference.

I wouldn't bet on the final version's rail being ULE'd. My only reason for thinking that is because the Dallara Body/Rail package doesn't have the ULE'd rail.

As an FYI my Dallara rail weighted around 1/2 an oz less than stock before being ULE'd

official Karta price is right at $300. Thats the body + emag rail + dual AGD ball detents.

I can get them anodized to a single base color for about $40 extra.. takes about a week extra.

Ill be putting a thread up in the dealers seciotn and linking to it from here once i get the first batch finished and polished up for pics.. which will be about a week or two.

I am curious to know if there are any restrictions on anno for these babies.

I have pretty much locked in a choice to buy one from the next batch, but was hoping to get a fade done. If memory serves me correctly, only a single colour anno can be purchased with a Karta, unless we get the anno done by someone else right?

Also, I must reiterate that you MUST post when you take orders for batch #2.

WOW! That's an amazing body.

Dragonfd3s are you sayin' that body has the RTPro stuff in it? is this body compatible with an RTPro setup? That's so stinkin' gorgeous!

Nicad, do you have a web site with all the specs and color options and such listed? I read the whole post, and maybe I missed it, or the 6:00 am hour is just messin' with my eyes (haven't been to sleep yet).

Dragonfd3s

Yep, everything in the RT Pro will fit except for the front mount/grip since there aren't any holes for it. I'm just going to drill and tap what I need to make a grip extender fit on the bottom of the rail etc.. I'll post more pic's once I get it done some time the end of next week. I'm pretty sure he could mill a RT Pro rail if you wanted him to so you could use the stock RT mounting system....

Nicad - would a Karta body fit ok on a standard E-Mag rail? If so, what would just the body alone cost and any chance of a pic of a Karta/std rail combo?

Thanks.

nicad

Gadget- Yes it will fit, and it actually looks not too bad. :) I think I have some shots of that setup around here somehere.. if I come across them I'll be sure to post them.

Cost of a Karta body alone would be $225 (yes the rail adds a lot)

but for now, how about a black Karta/rail with DL milling on the rail? forgot to add: this setup weighs in around 7.3 - 7.4 oz.

I thought that body/UL rail combo looked familiar. ;) I'd put pics of it up with my emag setup, but my battery and grip frame are litghly scratched up and really stand out now that I have a wonderfully shiny body.

BTW, this looks freaking insane with a no-rise clamping feed on it. I hope to come out to the Tex-ball game to pimp the 'mag. :D
