Personally I think it would be nice if the adds were kept to under 125pixels in height. They mess with the layout too much. Either that or have them on the top of the screen to the left of Clare.

Also they can get compressed down to 18k with no visible degration in quality. Thats webmasters call though

Regardless they look damn good

Um, 'cue, dayspring, I get what you were hinting at to begin with but if your mind is in the gutter think of what family of animals a lion is in... like what household pet it is related too, then let the dirty mind finish the thought pattern. Way too many subliminal messages in this ad considering the risque nature of it already. :)

A female paintball gear model who actually knows how to play too? Scary.... I think Capo should convince all the SP girls to play 5 on 1 against her and just bunker the hell out of them (with a mechanical mag too for a little extra insult). Now that would get AGD noticed.

mag-hatter I'm glad to see everyone in the paintball community has a sense of humor too.. wait, you don't. chill. Anyways, off the soapbox now. I think these ads do look cool, I would be interested in seeing the same idea but in a different setting, most of the Claire shots are with the white background and does look cool here but a little "sterile" (oh boy that could open up another can of worms) and adding color and attitude to the next ads would work well. I don't either.

As far as girls in general posing for pictures... they have a choice in how they present themselves. It is voluntary, not forced. If they are presented as a piece of meat, that was their choice to do so - I personally don't believe anyone would be so naive as to not realize what sort of reactions they would get... and claimed 'innocence' is horse puckey.

The person in a photo can choose to take a picture like this (although it probably won't be used to market something towards young males):
<img src="http://daisyland.tierranet.com/hepburn/images/ah2_16.jpg">

or can choose to take a picture like this (the type of picture that could be used to market something to young males):

I do agree with you Miscue, and do agree that I would find a girl like the first more attractive myself, but you can't deny that a large portion of America prefers the second and if that type of imagery is the most effective in marketing, companies should use it and it's people's freedom to prefer it. It is their choice to do so and guy's preference to prefer it which is why it is popular. And it is not just paintball, this is mild compared to other industries including the automobile industry and even your day-to-day tv. Reality shows sicken me these days, esp. the bachelor-like ones. That is our society today and I am sure Tom Kaye didn't tell Claire to do it or lose sponsorship, it most likely was her decision.

If maghatter had made his point by just saying he disagrees with the pics because it might give the wrong image of AGD and a more tasteful image should be used to make the company stand out as more noble and tasteful, I would have respected that whether I agreed with him or not. But his remarks were condescending, sterotypical, really didn't serve much purpose besides being an insult to us, and just makes him out to be a forum troll. Claire's pic hints on racey but is definitely not as tasteless as the other pics you see day-to-day. If you disagree, definitely voice your opinion you have as much right as everyone else here does, but try to aim it at the topic and not make it a cheap shot on the other people in the thread.

Miscue
11-15-2003, 05:14 PM
I agree with everything you said.

That's exactly the point... the second picture appeals to the masses - making it better for marketing. I think Clare's pics are tasteful and slightly racy... which made me somewhat confused when "meat" and that sort of thing came up. So my comments really had to do more with "meat" pictures in general, which I suppose was the issue that was brought up - although still not sure why.

11-15-2003, 05:24 PM
Guys, the pic really isn't that racy. It's just made to appear that way. I am perfectly aware of what comes with posing for pictures of that nature and I have to say that it doesn't bother me in the slightest. I don't take anything that is said personally and I'm never offended.

Thank you capo, one thing I am very happy to see is woman players such as yourself get more exposure (and I didn't mean the pun till I typed it) now and be recognized for both your looks as well as your abilities. I can't stand the women posing who have no clue what they are advertising as they are not about the sport, only making a buck for showing off their goods. You're representing AGD well and something like this is positive for the paintball community, it is a comfortable medium between T+A pics and pics of guys in camo. We could have you dress in a full-body oldschool dress for when AGD's ads starting running in Iraqi Weekly and Knitting Illustrated but for now I think this pic is tasteful enough for the masses.

Aren't ads suppose to cater to people who don't know about the products?

I mean, if not mostly everyone knows about every single one of those products here, hence automags.org.
They are cool and all but the goal is to get other people to find out the products.

Like if you were to get some of the ads to go on PbNation or the ads in a magazine it would make sense.

Never-the-less they look pretty cool. Kind of annoying though because of the size and all...

I prefer to think of paintball as a "family" game and I don't think that the women in the sport want to see products advertised with naked/half-naked women as eye candy. I think that the paintball community has shifted too far to the sexual side of things. There are just too many products out there with sexual overtones. Ask yourself this, if your daughter wants to play paintball, do you want her to be forced to walk into a store and order a Stiffi with a condom? I don't. I think that is what Mag-hatter is trying to convey.

Lovemymag, I do see your point but there really has been a great shift in the type of people playing and a large adolescent and young adult crowd exists that is more interest in that type of imagery, and most manufacturers in any industry are forced to cater to what the customer wants or else risk losing the business to a manufacturer who is willing to cater to it. I see AGD as being family-acceptable but they would be fools to totally ignore this adolescent population, the same people who XMags are geared towards. Their recent metamorphasis has the company being aimed towards the tournament scene, and that scene is definitely family oriented. I can't even stand being around the stereotypical tourney player that are more and more common. But they are the ones spending the most money so they ARE the market and need to be catered to. Thats how all industries work.

You obviously didn't read my post. I care that the companies that I want to support feel like they have to sell their products in this way. I know it happens "everywhere else." But that doesn't mean that I want it to happen in places where I felt it was unnecessary. The paintball industry grew at a phenomenal pace before this advertising and sinking to this level is unnecessary. I admit that the AGD ad is tame by comparison, but should I wait until they put full nudes to complain? I know some would relish full nude ads but I just don't think that they NEED them. Show the athletes in action.....or standing in full gear endorsing the product. Now that my point is out there, I'll stop........unless something infuriates me.

Maghatter, if seeing that much skin actually offends you, you need to stay off beaches, out of clubs, and frankly off the streets during summer because you;re going to be offended beyond belief. Your average college-age girl outside of a nunnery wear outfits where a thong may show like that, a low top, etc. Hell, XMen comics from 5-10 years back when I stopped reading them showed way more than that all the time. Or do you prefer all the kids dressing gothic like they do these years? It has been the decision of the society to approve of this type of appearance and you have the choice to agree or not, but sitting there and saying because we agree with it that we can't raise kids right, you're only proving that you're overreactng. This is why ratings exist, FCC rules regarding what can be seen on general TV, etc. This pic follows all guidelines which were created by the majority of americans agreeing with them so by the cultural standards agreed on by the clear majority of americans, this is fine. If you have an issue, buy a soapbox, go stand out in the middle of NY city, and preach it to the thousands of people that walk by because you basically need to change all of society's beliefs to have an effect. And if society approving of this sickens you, you need to accept it is either an American right to publish and view this material, or consider moving into a retirement home where you might find more people who agree with you.

OK, here is my final statement, after it I'm done with this dumb argument and yes, it's way off topic.

Preach all you want, but don't make the kinds of comments maghatter did to start the argument. State your point, don't rip into us for liking something that is socially acceptable. Just accept our view, we'll accept yours. But watch how you present it, because how he did it was lame. And it is a forum, so feel free to ramble, but just understand it's old now and most of us in THIS thread don't care to hear it anymore. Start your own and talk about how racy imagery is wrong if you're really so obsessed about it.

OK, done arguing this

:)

Now you guys have done it! You've upset our bunker queen. She's obviously offended, and completely bothered by the effects of posing for a picture of that nature! ;) :p

I now order you to continue arguing over trivial matters, so by this time tomorrow we'll have gotten no where!!!!
