Origins of the "Mag"

Ok I have looked over the Airgun website and either I missed it, or its not there. But how did the Mag get its name? I'm just curious how it came to be, since its not describing how what it does (IE auto-cocker). Anyone care to explain what mag stands for or what it is part of? Thanks in advance.
