On my ride in to work I was listening to the radio and Van Halen's Hot for Teacher came on. I then realized that the intro to that song just kicks arse. So, my question is, what is everyone favorite song intro?
Van Halen - Hot for Teacher - 1984

My friend is in the process of writing/arranging that song for his cello quartet. He already did it for Unforgiven.
Both awesome songs...

Boston- it's been a long time (or something along the lines of that) The 7-8 minute version has about 5 minutes straight of this awesome guitar, it is so good.:)

Although it's not really an intro per se, Eruption, also by Van Halen, is simply an awesome bit of musification. :D It's kinda the intro to You Really Got Me, but they're seperate tracks. Eruption is on the Van Halen Best Of CD (Vol. 1), but You Really Got Me isn't. They always get played one right after the other on the radio though.
Ozzy's "Perry Mason" is another great one. (Not to mention Crazy Train, No More Tears, and so on)
Metallica: Fade to Black, One, Ride the Lighting (short but I loves it), Master of Puppets, etc., etc.
Alice In Chains: Angry Chair
Wagner: Ride of the Valkyries
Journey: Seperate Ways
EDIT: How the bejeebuz did I forget...
Eagles: Hotel California (live, off of Hell Freezes Over)

Layla but Eric Clapton. The plugged in version is better then the acustic. That guitar "riff" is awsome.

I was sooooo waiting for someone to say that, I have been holding off. Though I do not think the song is the greatest Deep Purple song, but that does have to be one of the most well known intros.

Overall, the song is somewhat mediocre, but the opening and that riff are great. The song starts off strong then goes downhill.
But we are talking about intros, not entire songs :)
