Please feel free to share your thoughts, ideas
or suggestions on this tread dealing with
what the military calls TADs, or Training
Aid Devices.
Simply put, these are the tools which they use
to make their troop training more realistic.
When it comes to paintball, we've seen some
use of these sorts of things, but there's never
been all that much effort put into this as far
as civilian games go.
That's about to change, or at least it's now
possible to add some of these elements, if the
field owners and Scenario Game promotors want to.
For starters, there's now a really cool shoulder
launcher, which comes from Blackpoint Engineering,
which can serve to take out bunkers and tanks
using safe Nerf Pocket Vortex rounds. Of course it
can also serve the military as a substitute for
an RPG just as easily.
Another new recent development, is the PMB-14 pellet mine, which is being produced by AULTEC LLC, out of NJ.
Another whole class of TADs, which I'm sure will
raise a few hairs on everyone's neck, are those being
created by Ken Hammond, owner of Area-51 out of
Canada and lets not forget the newest TAD to hit
the streets, the M80TR antipersonnel mine from
Major Paintball. Finally, an affordable way to
restrict movements on trails or in front of your
base, without risking injury. By the way, this mine
is still a month or more from being ready to ship,
but it's already found itself on the 'to buy' list
of several major military training commands.
Finally, there are some items which while they
aren't at all dangerous to use, are being reserved
solely for MIL/LE end users. The M14 & M16 type mines,
which are now being turned out by Gun F/X, are just
one example and then there's those air powered
mortars and cannon Tippmann Ordnance builds,
which are also only going to MIL end users.
If you'd like to check some of these things out,
here's a list of places to go for more information.
To be honest, some of these might be out of some
folks price range, while others aren't. Guess it'll
be up to you, the fields and promoters to decide
that.

Oh, if you're thinking to yourself, how real can
any of this stuff really be, take a moment to check
out this short clip. Just remember, NO PYRO was used
in the filming of this sequesnce..

Ok, so the next time someone says, hey we've got to
blow up their ammo dump, will it make any difference
if they've got one of these wired so it'll blow when
you hit the right spot, or will it be just another
mission that you'll pass off to someone else to carry
out?
Just remember, always cover your rear!
