View Full Version : Orders for Iraq...confirmed today.

Army
12-18-2003, 11:39 PM
I will be leaving 5 January for support operations in Iraq. My return date will be June or July of 2005 (around 18 months) This has been confirmed as of today, by 5th Army HHC (headquarters command)

I will be at Ft Lewis, Washington until early Feb, then we go overseas. I will be attached to the new Stryker Fast Attack Brigade, as they go into combat operations for the first time in Army history....so that's cool! I will not know my APO/FPO until we get settled in with the brigades, but will post/inform all of my where-abouts and progress as much as I can.

My time here on AO as a Mod, has been very enjoyable. Being an Ambassador for AGD has also been very rewarding, with the places I've been, and all the wonderful people I've met.

Tom, thank you for believing that I could represent you and AGD. I think I have done my best to be fair and equitable, yet firm in my approach in helping to make AO the largest, and best known owners group in paintball. Phil, Rob, Stephen, Steve, Jason, Kayle, Brad, Jon, JJ, Bob, Greg, Mark. I am proud to have met, and know all you guys. Marcia and JoAnn, you two are the best, thanks for keeping AGD on an even keel!

To all members of Automags Online, thanks for a great last few years. I've had a terrific time:)

Thanks again to all, just wait 'til I get back:D

SGT David Medzyk, US Army

PS: I'll stick around here until I leave though, you ain't rid of me yet!

Hey, good luck man. My roomate Nate was in the Army reserves and he told them he wanted to go to Iraq, so he got orders to go over for 18 months. I talked to his brother, and he said that Nate was in Alabama (I think) right now and is getting training before he heads over.

Sorry but that is reserved for us Marines :) ... I think the Army rally call is something like "The Marines have left the area, lets pretend we did all this damage!"

:) Just giving ya hell Army ... wish I was going, missed all the fun in the big sandbox while I was active duty.

Yes. I'm glad to have met and spoken with Army and I'm also glad to have someone with his strength of character protecting our country...my prayers are with him and his family. I know this does not make up for his orders but I do feel safer and sleep better at night knowing people like him and other soldiers like him are protecting our country.

Wow! Thanks for the outpouring of good thoughts, they will help maintain while I'm there. You guys and gals are the best.

The Stryker Fighting Vehicle, is an 8 wheeled beastie that sports the latest in 25mm auto-cannon technology, a few anti-armor TOW2-B missiles, and a near full squad inside. They can travel cross country at insane speeds, yet remain highway legal:D It is easily converted to handle an auto-loading 105mm cannon too, to increase it's tank killing abilities.

The Stryker was named after TWO men named Stryker(and no, neither were John Wayne on Iwo Jima:)), both of whom received the Medal of Honor, one in WWII, the other in Vietnam.....both were awarded posthumously. hooah

The main Stryker brigade is already there, having off-loaded last November in Kuwait. The info we have been able to drag kicking and screaming from "those in the know", is that we will meet up with the battalions in Iraq, and conduct support operations with the combat trains.

Good Luck Army. 18 months is a long time so stay in touch. And let us know what you think of the Stykers.

I've seen a handful of them through my father (DOD live fire tester) and they're pretty cool. When I first heard about them I didn't understand why the push for them away from the Abrams, but now I totally get their usefullness.

Good luck man.
