Hey all ... got a Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound system for X-Mas and now I need to know a good way to hide the speaker wires.

I live in an apartment so running the wires behind the wall and along the ceiling is out of the question ... and really dont want to have the exposed wires along the wall, but will if I have to.

Just wanted to know if anyone has an tricks for running the wires that is less tacky looking then just along the walls.

You could always get wireless speakers. My uncle is getting some, after he couldn't find a place to put the wires in his house.

You can also just run very long wiring and make sure it runs along the baseboard and then up to the speaker location. You can get covers that will go over the wire on the wall and painted the same color as the wall. It will make them stand out much less. Or, just run the wires as I stated and don’t worry about trying to cover them.

run em on the baseline, then try right up the corner or paint the wire itself.

Under the carpet unless you have those wooden polished floors, still gonna have to expose the wires somehow when you run them to the speakers.

i just use some covers that the wire fits into....it hides it well as long as you have the covers and your walls be the same color. i'm pretty sure you can get them at any electronics store..

In my surround sound system we run the wires along the cieling in the corner, and it goes the whole length of the room back to the speakers. To be honest I forgot the wires were there until I saw this thread. White coated wires fit into white cielings very nicely. I can get pictures if you want but I'm rather lazy right now.

Get low profile wire. Acoustic Research makes a nice small white wire that I use for my CSW surround system. If your room is not white, you can paint most wire to match your decor.

you wanna take the focus away from your wires? turn up your speakers real loud, you wont notice em anymore:D

If you dont find any white wire, I'm sure you could easily paint them. But I think ours came white :)

USE a screw driver and poke them carefully, so you don;t scrape the insulation off, under the floor boards.

a good way is to use a staple gun and run it along the base boards then paint it that way it stays out of the way

Here's the white flat cabling I use for my surround speakers. It's made by Monster Cable - it's not one of their crazy expensive cables either. I think you can get it at Best Buy.

The version I use is the top one on this page (http://www.monstercable.com/home_av/audio_cables/iow.asp).

I have 2 big trails of duct tape going across my room(long stroy) but you could tak the wires down where the walls meet the floor.
