how can i figure out if my tank has to be tested in 5 years or 3 years

i ahve a flatline with a 114 air america tank.
it has been tested once the metal plate that says its tested has a date
9 / 00
and in the middle it has a box with
C6
90
in it

the bottle has this on the original label
DOT E11005-3000
6115A-0293 M4927 4-IA11-96

I "think" that the hydro date on all madern tanks has been increased to 5 years.I am not sure what date this took effect , but I remember reading something about it not long ago.

But if you want the easy answer, you tank's hyrdo expired in September. Any thing made prior to 2001 is a 3 year tank.

good link now i will get nothing on my flatline 3000
and i have to decide if i shoudl sell it now and skip the hassel of go get it tested and hope the price of the test is less then the increased value of a freshly tested tank

My AA 114 tanks says that it has a 3 year hydro (printed on the label). Maybe you have a newer tank.

Sort of.

If a tank was manufactured before, I beleive, June 2001, it must have its first hydrotest done within three years, but some tanks have had extensions retroatively applied, so that *AFTER* you have the 3 year test, you won't have to have it tested again for ANOTHER three years.

There's a post around here from Bill Mills with a direct link to the DoT's exemption number lookup page, but I'm too lazy to find it. :)
