View Full Version : Mech Tournament at Shatnerball??

AO,

The mech only tournament got 4 pages of responses so it's obviously a hot topic. There were complaints about Shatnerball because it was only one day.

How about a Mech Only tournament at Shatnerball the day before the big game? We could call it a MeX Tournament or Mecha Ball!

Your thoughts?

If it was in Texas you could call it a Tex-MeX tourney haha!!!

Shatnerball mech tournament would be fun! It would help out a lot of new rec/senario players break into a tourney that they KNOW they can compete in due to the 'lower rof'. Perhaps the smae type of thing is in line for the IAO, have you told Deb K about the intrest in a non-electro tourney?
btw if it IS done, do a 5 man with PSP(nppl) rules.

I say go for it, even though I wont be able to make shatnerball, unless some nice fellow Atlantan is nice enough to take me :p
It would be defentally tight. The best part is, all the people with emags just have to take their battery packs out of the battery housing, and put the housing back on and you have no electrical parts exposed, a lighter gun, and its mechanical! :p
Lets see an intimidator/angel/impulse/viking/excallibur/anything else do that!

I'm up for it on the day before as long as I can get in a pump game too. The mini castle we did at EMR on the saturday before was really fun.

A mech tourney at Shatnerball would be awesome! Now I just need to wait and see where it's being held (not that it matters, me and 1483 are going either way).

*adds another reason to the long list of reasons to attend Shatnerball III*

I'm definately down for that, just tell me when and where and I'll see if I can make it.

I'd definately be interested, if Shatnerball is in
Chicago, or somewhere within 6 hours of me. The
location for Shatnerball II was a 14 hour drive for
me, so I took a pass on that one.

Any ideas on prizes? Trophys & braggin rights? or real
loot? If guns are top prizes, make em mechanical only!!

I think it shouldn't be more than trophys and bragging rights. It needs to be kept in a fun and friendly theme.

maybe a nice autographed clare poster for a prize

it seems those are in hot demand

i 100% agree with kev,,it should not be about prizes and money.like he said, keep if fun.bragging rights would be the BIG prize.

I'm SO in for it. Just tell me the entry fee and team sizes :-)

since ths will be a once a year deal.. Why not go radical.

Wanna have a lot of fun? Make it 10man, and, Don't allow teams. Just randomly select teams. Make the entry cheapish, or make prizes cover say.. the top 10 teams ;-) and people will be happy.

Honestly I'd like to see another twist... Unlimited mechanical. Think Tippman RT, Tippman F/A, Mags with 1200psi inputs, Reflex Autocockers, maybe even auto responce frames.... As long as it's mechanical, and doesn't shoot more than 2 shot per trigger stroke (in, or out, in this case.. to allow the auto responce frames)

they do something like this in motorcross. Where you get to take a minibike, and so long as it has minibike wheels (mech frame) it's legal. ;-)

Rahel: I'm thinking solaris 7 ;-) Are LAM's legal?

Maybe like a case or 2 of paint for Shatnerball the nextday? Anyways something we could use for the nextday at shartnerball....... Maybe cool jerseys that let everyone know that we are weinners!!!

^^^I like that idea.. and the clare poster idea (hehe...:D) too bad I can't come... oh well, next year...

addition to earlier idea! Someone mentioned paint or something that could be used for the main event on the following day.
Isn't there a few "elite" squads that make up personal guard of some of the main players (Tom, William & Mancow)?
So, let the winning team make up one or part of those elite guards!
i.e. 1st place gets their choice of escort duties
2nd place gets next choice

if it was included in the entry fee or was very cheap i would consider it. I would especialy consider it if it was near Chicago; i can drive or take southwest airlines for not much money. If you make it a separate event than the usually scenerio adn it cost huge money then no; i am not interested; especially for bragging rights.

I'd shoot myself in the foot rather than win a chance to bodyguard some REMF. Of course, this doesn't apply to Tom. But Mancow? How big a bodyguard do you need to block the door of his trailer?

What could be interesting is for each team to have a handful of 'Elite Jersies' that are similar to, but distinguishable from the regular ones (think officer vs enlisted uniforms) available for the celebs, command staff, etc. The winners could get one of these for their work. These could also be given out to refs, staff, etc.

And, while I'm sure you'll see plenty of mags in such a tourney, don't count out the Armies of Orr and the POGladytes. You know they'll be all over a mech tourney.

Meph

Yeah, unlimited ROF with unlimited paint, allowing mech. that can shoot even faster than electros. Allow it all! Because that was the entire point of the Mechanical-Only idea, to play in games that shoot faster than or equal to electros!

Guess people already forgot the entire concept of this and began the arms race before the event has even happened again.

Spaceman613

You read my mind Meph...

I think a pump tourney would be better, but some companies dont even make pump guns anymore. :(

and even with pump, youd get the people saying "pneumatic assist" automatically... the arms race never ends for some people.

TheTramp

I'd be interested depending on the extra cost and the ability to find extra team members.

Gabriel

no, the original idea of a mech-only tourney was to stop cheater boards. Now we just have to worry about rapid fire sweetspotting.

Ok I'm SO up for this... paintball as I grew up in..

Anyone up for starting an all-PALMER team?

No, I'm sorry. But the overall point/idea/concept of the Mechanical-only was that so people could shoot semi without the fear of everybody else also gunning it at 18bps. Meaning maybe the fastest person shooting probably 12.

When you start having then mechanical markers that can be modified/sweet spotted to shoot just as fast as said electros that completely ruins it.

The whole point was to rebel from the arms race.

Hey if you want to actually think it's about something as trivial as cheater boards then by all means go ahead and think that.

A mech tourney would be great> I haven't used my classic mag in like 3 years.

Another thing to possibly consider, if rebeling against the arms race, would be to limit paint... Just a thought...
