View Full Version : Efficiency?

It seems like my 68 Classic uses a lot more air than my Piranha Pro. Is this normal or do I need to make an adjustment somewhere or what?

It may just be the mag, people often complain about their inefficiency. A bad paint to barrel match, and an early ported barrel may be the culprit also.

What are you using? Air or Co2?
how many shots are you getting per fill?

Oh, yeah, that would help wouldn't it!

Okay, I'm using Compressed Air, and I'm getting about 300 shots per 500 psi on my Automag, but around 500-600 on my Piranha per 500 psi. The tank I'm measuring on is a 1015 x 3000psi (yes, it's huge and I wear it on my belt).

yeah that it a big tank, over 1000ci!?!
you shouldnt have to worry about efficiency, you can probably shoot over 8 cases off of one fill!
that has to be a hefty paint bill.

Yeah, that's what I'm saying. The ci is huge, but I'm going through 500 psi in aorund 300 balls on my Mag. That just seems like a bit much. I've only just picked this used 68 up and I'm itching to take it out to the field, but I'd hate to run out of air! We don't exactly have air fills in the woods where we usually play. :p

I haven't had this thing clocked, yet. It doesn't seem to be any hotter than my Piranha in practice shots, but could it be that it's just cranked up too high? Would that make a big difference on a Mag? On a Piranha you crank the spring, so it doesn't change your efficiency, but it's the other way around on the Mag, right?

Yeah shooting over 300fps will use more air.
using a level 10 valve will use more air.
i get about 700 shots from a 72/4500 with my Lx/Xvalve
mags are not as efficient as some guns, but they shoot better, so it is worth it...you'll definately appreciate how much better it shoots than a piranha.

get a good barrel and match it to your paint size, that will help efficiency better than anything else...plus it will make the gun dead on accurate.

10 shots per cubic inch 3000psi fill
and 15 for a 4500 fill.

so a normal 68x3000 fill nets you 680 shots, roughly.
a 1000x3000 fill gets you 10,000!!

you should consider getting a regular tank and use the big one to fill it, it will save your back, be safer and improve the way you move on the field.

Oh, damn! That was a typo! It's a 145ci not 1015 or whatever the hell I put up there! Jeeze! That would be a friggin scuba tank on my back! :p

so, 145ci, 3000psi. Heh. Still big, but not a honkin scuba tank. :D

It weighs the same as the alloy 48 3000 I was using before (actually, slightly less) so it doesn't slow me down at all.

HA! I imagined a dude with a scuba tank on his back, lying in a bunker in the woods. you shouldn't have told me, I would have liked to have kept believing that someone out there has a scuba tank with remote attached to his back! thats funny!!

Ha! Yeah, that WOULD be funny but, uh, I don't wanna be that guy. Heh.

So I should get through between 1000 and 1500 balls on this tank with the Mag. I'll play with it in tonight's game and see how it goes. Heh. Then I'll get it clocked tomorrow and see how bad I hurt my friends and if they'll still be talking to me next week. :D

Went through about 900 balls tonight and still had 1000psi left. I think this should work just fine. :D

I went to see the paintball guy that I trust. He told me my tank is not a 145, it's a 115ci. He has one just like it from 5 years ago when he was shooting a mag, too! Heh. Good guy. :)
