G10 is stronger than steel and lighter than aluminum, my dad owns a machine shop and i make drops and stuff outa scrap leftovers

heres another pic

It's a composite material, like fiberglass.

it's really cool but It needs to be colored.

Hmmmmm, unique, I like it:) . I think you are on to something. How is the price compared to aluminum? Strength?

make it colored, and do some engraving/cosmetic milling and you could sell a million just because its "custom" and different. Trust me, I would buy it if you could make it black and REAL small.

you can paint G10, but not much else can be done to it.

K&P Customs made a few cocker bodies out of it, they are lighter than a stock class phantom... and that's light...

nice job, but i'm not understanding the real necessity of it. how well will the threads hold in it?

Well, I think it's pretty cool. No matter what, making your own drop is damned cool. What do you think of this design?

i can paint it any simple color... like black or red or blue, i did this one just as an example, i am planning one in the shape of a naked chick laying down, or some cool flames, i can get small pieces of g10 for free cuz they are just scrap and owuld be thrown away

fenix_rising

the threads have held out well, i have played like six times, no bend or slip of any kind, this thing is solid

any chance of being able to make me a really tiny one? Can they be powdercoated? Lemme know, im def. interested.

I do not believe you could powder coat it. Because there is no metal to take a static charge to make the powder stick to it.

You can gell coat Fiberglass. So I would assume maybe this material? I not certain.

I'd say being that the material is available, you should try some really unique shapes. Get away from the typical drop shape.

I'm interested. How about estimate a price.

I hope he doesnt charge very much, considering its 100% profit...

So?
Its his time, and his dad's material he'll be using. He's doing the design work, he's doing the cutting. So its not 100% profit.
I think it'd be interesting to see other shapes he can make and some with color. Keep up the good work.

Not going to ruin his thread with trivial arguments.

Not that I care either way,but the value of a product,ANY product,is determined by demand not the sum of it's parts or construction.

If the demand exists,a sticky peice of paper could sell for millions.........like for instance........a stamp.;)

i was thinking of starting the price at about $20 or 25 if the design was hard to make... ill keep you guys updated and post some screenshots of that the designs look like before i make them and you all can give me feedback on what you think!

FYI, your gonna have to mill a dovetail in the bottom and be sure it'll be strong enough to hold a large tank. You'll need it drilled and tapped for set screws on the dovetail version and in the non-dovetail version, you'll need a way to insert nuts for asa attachment.I wouldn't count on just screwing into the G10 to hold up to the average abuse of the normal teenager.;)

I like the basic shape. You should try one that half that size as well.

I look forward to seeing one with a little more cosmetic milling on the sides.

Fenix, I'm intrested.

Someone (Punishers I think) made a cocker out of G10.

ide buy one if ya could make it dove tail. and drilled holes throught it to even lessen the weight.

BTW where r u from.

K&P Customs made a few cocker bodies out of it

In Fact i know where 2 of them are!

i have drilled and tapped the screw holes for the asa and drilled the holes for the grip .002 bigger than the screw dia... i dunno if i could do a dovetail or not... i would have to experiment with the program a little more practice and i should be able to do it, and the weight lessening experiments are already in process:cool:

quick question. Do these give slivers like other fiberglass stuff?

CoolHand
01-15-2004, 02:52 AM
Nice work.

I love to see people muster up some personal initiative and have others appreciate their labors.

Feels good to hold your ideas in your hands doesn't it?

BTW, the term is CNC (Computer Numeric Control), not C&C.

Keep the chips flyin' man.

Later

Dude, if you have access to a mill, and machineshop owned by yo dad, and can do stuff like that.... Start pumping stuff out, but make more creative. Just having the option to mill stuff is already 1/2 closer than most people. I would be making stuff daily for whatever setup I had.

Get imaginative man... can do a lot better than such a simple design.

no slivers at all!! this weekend im gonna try a new design that i ahve created, ill post the pick prob on monday or tues when i get em... new plans, i have found that i can get my hands on more aluminum than G10!! which is great because i can anno it so itll look better

i got a question for anyone who knows anything about the mastercam mill9 program... how do you work on a 3d axis??

-=Squid=-
01-15-2004, 10:33 AM
I think you should still offer G10 as a material, simply because it is different. Anybody can get any tpye of drop, but NOT a g10 ;)
