Smoke generator

I have had it in the back of my mind for some time now to build a smoke generator. I know a guy who is a SWAT member who says they have one powered by propane they use for training exercises. Does anyone know where one could be found or the basic design for it? This will basically be for special effects use on the field.

wouldn't a fog machine work also.
A propane powered smoke machine doesn't sound like it would be a good thing in a closed environment.

Some fellas at December's Finale rigged up some sort of fuel additive or smoke generator so that the tank's exhaust pipe would emit enormous quantities of smoke. 10-20 meter smoke cube, I estimate. No idea how they did it, but it was the guys in the rickety-looking Rebel tank, WWI-ish.

You can get a decent fog machine for under $300.
Safe, non toxic and they smell a hell of a lot better.
We use cherry scented fog at the Fire grounds. :D

It has to be mobile. It will be used where there are no electrical connections.
