View Full Version : Digital Camera Question - Sony DSCP52 Opinion?

I realize that this question is mildly ironic due to my user name (picked up while working for 3 years as the sole yearbook photographer in my high school), but I've only ever worked with 35mm SLRs before.

I've been asked to select and purchase a replacement digital camera for my University's engineering society - the previous one met an unfortunate death after going head to head with a golf cart at our annual golf tournament (I didn't ever get a clear explanation of how this happened, as I wasn't at the event).

Anyways, as the previous camera was a Sony, and I still have several proprietary Sony memory cards, I'm pretty much limited to getting another Sony.

My budget is limited to roughly $400 Canadian, before taxes, which leaves me looking at the Sony DSCP52 CyberShot Digital Camera as pretty much the only Sony that fits my requirements.

Really, I'm just wondering if anyone out there has any dire warning, or positive comments, on this particular model.

Here are the specs:

Don't know about that particular camera, but a couple sites I found helpful when I was shopping for a new digicam are Digital Photography Review (http://www.dpreview.com/) and The Imaging Resource (http://www.imaging-resource.com/).

Both sites have quite a few reviews on cameras. I ended up getting a Fuji FinePix F700 and like it a lot. Now I just have to get the underwater housing so I can take it diving with me. :) The F700's MSRP is $600 US, so it's a wee bit over your budget.
