Well, I scored a 18, pretty sad, but still pretty good in a way for almost falling asleep two times during the test and not studying at all...

What techniqes did you use to better your score?

Thanks
Adam

I never took the ACT, but I took the SAT once. I got a 750 on the verbal, and 700 on the math. I didn't do too good on the math, I figure I could hit 800 if I retook it enough times.

Techniques for improvement: The math is kinda hard to study for, you can do it or you can't. Lots of hard work involved if you want to substantially improve that.

Verbal: What can REALLY help you is if you study lots and lots of vocab. Your reading comprehension skills may be fine... but they can throw you off with words you don't know. Analogies: The hardest part about analogies is not the logic... cookie cutter pretty much. It's the words they use. There's a couple SAT/ACT vocab books out there.

I think the ACT had a science section... I always thought it was kind of an oddball thing... if you paid attention in earth sciences and stuff... you should be alright.

buy one of those ACT helper programs and use it. mine told me i would get a 23, and i got a 24. pretty accurate. also keep taking it. i could have taken it again anytime in my last 3 years of highschool but i didnt. kind of knocked me out of the ranks of some scholarships. my friend got a stinking 32. i hate him.

I recommend the Kaplan series of computer preps. It raised my score from a 30 to a 32 and my English from a 25 to a 33.

I never took the ACT either (But i'm not in 11-12th grade yet.) But... I did take the PSAT in the seventh grade. I seem to recall I got around a 1230.

I received a 35 on the ACT in 1989. Of course, the scores have probably changed since then, but at the time it was pretty good.

Nah, Ben - its still a 36 point scale :)

Personally I took it 9 times, working my way from a score of 22, to a score of 32.
I too would recommend the Kaplan computer preps.

25. I don't think that that is so bad for the first time and without prep. My parents told me about a week in advance that I was taking it.

I got a 32 composite. Let's see, if I remember correctly, that was a 36 English, 34 science, 29 math and 35 something else.
