Blah.

Long story short my car may be totalled... :(

So... time to find a new, gently used, car...

Criteria:
I'd prefer American or European... ixnay on the iceray!
Model years 1995 and newer...
I'm prolly only gonna be able to swing 5-6 grand TOPS on it.
I'd prefer 4 doors, and a 6 cylinder engine... a manual tranny would rock, but probably isn't gonna happen.

any recommendations?

I'd love to find another Eagle Vision, a newer one with the 3.5 and tiptronic would be stellar (the one i just crashed was a 96 esi (3.3l with auto)).

Must it be another car? Cherokee/Grand cherokee.
You can get the cherokee with a 5spd, and the I6, plently of torque too :)

I'd debating that... I'm not a huge fan of SUVs... I like the milage compared to cargo space i get with a sedan.

I got about 12mpg city 18mph highway in my 6cyl grand cherokee. I think thats about average for those things, but the cherokee is lighter and the 5spd will use less gas as well, so that would go up a bit. I think you could actually get a 5spd grand cherokee up untill 95, but they're rare.

blah, that milage is horrible.

no other suggestions?

maybe i should look at 6cyl white mustangs... ?

Mustangs are 2 door, thats why I didn't suggest a camaro :)
What kind of milage do you want?
In the cherokee with a 5spd probably add 4mpg, and thats pretty good for a real SUV.

look at the early to mid 90 Audi's
audi 100/200 are the bigger models and the 80/90 are the midsize
all wheel drive
5 speed manual
5 cylinder engine
the model 200s have a turbo
bullet proof engines that people put loads of miles on without problems
im looking for a 91 audi 200 they have over 200hp
you might be able to find an older s4 audi they were i think 1992 to 1996

buddy of mine has a 1989 audi 90 and he isnt to far from hitting 300,000 miles

i hate to say it, but if you want something that will go and go and go, and not die on you, despite its slight slowness, i would say look into an old diesel mercedes.

i love my 240d, it just keeps going

Yes, I love diesels, so much torque and they sound cool, but there is one thing I don't like about them: repair costs. Diesel parts are mucho $$$, but it takes alot to run down a diesel if you properly maintain it.

yeah, repair costs on older Audis and Mercedes' that are OOP are huge... I remember what it cost to keep my Jetta going back in high school...

keep em comin!

if you find an audi for 5 grand or less, there's something wrong with it lol. i wanted an audi too, but 1 their mpg is pretty crappy and 2 they're muy espensivo...

edit- get a toyota camry..they're all the rage...or so i hear..

Why not go for a Dodge Intrepid or the Stratus...both can be had pretty cheap and both have rather large trunks. Just my $.02 hope it helps some.

I found a couple nice Intrepids in the area... same chassis, engine, and interior as the Vision I had... even found a few fairly new ones (2000) in my price range.

I'm thinking of trying to get to an auction like Lord mentioned...

but just gotta keep searching...

Watch the newer Intrepids with the 2.7?? (dont recall) engine. THey have proven to be a very very tempermental engine and if nto kept up well (3,000 mile oil changes mean 3000 miles) have been having very short lives, like 50K miles.

If I can, I'll be getting one with the 3.5... :) I had the 3.3... very nice engine.. but the 3.5 was way better... and had over 40 more HP to boot...
