I'm working on a TT 306 for my 92 Mustang vert. This summer I just got done with the tranny and this winter it's getting new wheels, suspension, brakes and gears. NO clue as to when the motor will be done though, it's not exactly cheap ya know. Hoping to make this one a low 12 sec car, but I doubt I'll be able to stick with the parts I'm looking at, I'll pry end up twisting the chassies by building the block too strong. Oh well, I guess it will be another "supreem misfortune".

Well, My cars are a '82 Jaguar XJ6 and a '87 TVR 280i

Personally, I would say that the series III Jaguar is the best looking sedan ever made.

And while the doorstop shape isn't the most pleasing to the eye, the TVR does have a tube frame and nice little V6.

That's pretty much my complete all british fleet... All I need now is a 70's Land Rover...

This is a picture of the exact clone of the car I'm buying later this week. (The car in the picture is my friends.) 1973 MGB-GT. The exterior is in good shape, engine is in awesome condition, but the interior needs some TLC. The only mechanical updating it may need is an overdrive transmission.

Oh, and I may replace the 8-track player. :)

Actually, one of my friends does virtually nothing except restore british cars, build hot rods, and other eclectic automotive work. He just rebuilt the engine, and it runs beautifully. Anyways, it's going to be for zipping around town, not for long drives, and I know at least 3 guys with trailers it will fit on. :)

95 ford escort wagon.
100 watt by 2 channel deck
600 watt amp
2 12" subs by jensen(bridged of corse)
xploid 5x9s in the back.(will soon cut fenders and put in 2 type 6x9s)
two 10" 400 watt pyle driver subs(gonna be in truck boxes and under the front seats)need a new amp for them.
need new door speakers(fryed the stock ones he he he)

Zumina
10-02-2001, 03:41 PM
i bid you good luck fitting anything under the front seats other than loose change and candy wrappers. Other than that sounds cool. Soon I will be putting Rockford Fosgate 12"s and a RF 1000 watt amp. Going to exspensive but oh so worth it. The car's stock system is BOSE Platium which sounds good, but lacks definition. Time for custom tweeters.

weekends only: 69 Mustang Fastback with, 427 Cobra Jet Engine, 4-speed lightning rod set-up (what they use in funny cars), a rear end that is so tight, i have a hard time keeping the front wheels on the ground, almost too much torque. almost as loud as a winston cup car, so there is no sound system. of course it is black.

Mr. Hick

Blue 2001 Jetta Wolfsburg, 1.8T engine, 16" BBS rims, sport suspension, 5speed. Its my pride and joy!! Color matches my E-Mag :)

My dad has a 67' Corvette Stingray Big Block 427 thats completely stock and being lovingly restored. Has just been repainted and interior re-done. He wants to get it Top Flite awarded, which is a very presitgeous award, the best a vette can get. You want to talk about power, hows 450hp, 430ft/lbs of tourqe and a 1/4 mile time of about 12.8 seconds on 8 inche wide Dunlops. For anyone that knows vettes, he's pushing 13 to 1 compression and a racing cam, that was offered by Chevy back in the 60's for the vette. So it still classifies as stock! :) Thats a MEAN car, it scares me.

1988 Merkur XR4ti manual
1985 Merkur XR4ti manual

My namesake and hobby, the Merkur XR4ti. If any of you know what a Merkur is, I'm impressed. I've owned the 85 since I was 17 and explained its odd history to more people than I could ever count. The 88 is my current daily driver as racing has taken it toll on the 85 and I can't work on it while I'm away at school. The only mod on the 88 is a 3" exhaust from the turbo back giving the car that great sound only a turbo can make. Lower the windows and listen to the turbo spool and waste gate open.

5.0 conversion in a RX7, interesting. That's a popular option for XRs too. Great small, light motor.

Automatic transmissions suck,
XR

PigSweat
10-30-2001, 05:54 PM
Hey XR4,

How hard of a time do you have finding parts for your Merkur? I was considering getting one but was worried about availability of parts.

PS: I obviously know what a Merkur is so gimme my prize!:)

XR4
10-30-2001, 07:30 PM
Finding parts hasn't always been easy. At the local ford dealer they can get maybe one forth of the parts I ask for, Ford has obsoleted most of them. Most engine parts are still available, except for the cylinder head, because that block was used in several cars. Find a good local imported auto parts store. I use S+G in Detroit and they surprise me with what they can get and the prices are decent too. There are a few mail order companies importing parts from europe or making/modifying there own parts. For a car with so little resale value, parts can be expensive. I've never been unable to fix the car due to lack of parts, but I have had to ask around. To own this car, its worth it. www.mmon.org has all the important links.

I've got an aunt in Toronto and I'm always surprised with the number of Merkurs I see there (wow!, two in one week!.) Perhaps they were more popular with canadians.

Mine are dual SU's. (1 1/2" HIF series). Polished head, too. My Monza is probably coming off this year in favor of a Peco - depending on what the dyno says is better. Actually, GM didn't start putting LS1s in Camaros until 1998. Up until then, the 4th gen Z-28s all ran LT1 engines. Stock, the LS1 rates about 305-310hp, but with enough aftermarket mods (heads, cams, exhaust, et.), the sky is pretty much the limit. The LS1 doesn't have the same throaty roar as its LT1 predecessor, but it is a LOT more graceful about putting power to the pavement (and a whole light lighter, too).

I'll get pics of my cars sometime. Right now, I've got a 96 BMW Z3, Lexus RX300, and a GMC Yukon XL. The GMC has Xenons, Stull phantom grill, and 3 Kenwood touchscreen TVs/DVD. In June, I'm gettin a 2002 Limited 4wd v8 TRD Toyota Tundra.

Automatic transmissions suck,
XR

I know what Merkur's are, they kind've look like saabs.:p They were german imports, weren't they? Ford imported 'em...I could be wrong. I looked at getting one before, just because I see like a 87 in good condition, except for the fact it has a rust spot on the hood n 4 flats, in my neighborhood. I would've bought it, but its auto.

btw, if you explained this stuff I haven't read the rest of the thread yet.

-fast (relitvley speaking)
-good on gas

-FWD or RWD?

Relatively fast [stock] for a FWD 3400lb car.
heh, 24 around town, 30 on the highway (doing 80)
VERY ROOMY! That was the car's major selling point for me.
FWD

If you can find a 5 speed, you'll be in REALLY good shape as far as stock speed goes. Twin Turboed, (a $4000 investment) the car will run a mid 12.

Cool, I'm sold. There is a black, 5 spd, tinted w/ alarm and exausht for sale around here, only 7500 CAD. I think I'll give him a call

Zumina

ask when/if the timing belt and altenator were changed. The timing belt is a crucial peice of equipment in a DOHC engine. Both the belt and altenator are rather difficult and expensive to replace. How many miles are on the car, and what does 7500 CAD equate to in American dollars? I paid $2800 for my 93' Z34 w/ 83456 miles on it, an old timing belt, and a bad altenator. LMK how things turn out.

PigSweat
05-21-2002, 10:50 PM
$7,500 CAD=$4,885.01 USD.

I'll have to call back tomorrow and ask about the alternator/timing belt. The car has brand new Eagle GAs, new Black paint, new tint, redone dual exhaust, and 120000 kms (which is equal to about 75000 miles, you Yank ;) :D )

I'll see if I can get a pic to post.

Thanks for your help.

On another note, is there any difference between Lumina Z34s and Grand Prix GTPs of the same era? I ask b/c there are several awesome deals on GTPs around here and the cars seem very simalar in price, engine, etc.

PigSweat
05-21-2002, 10:51 PM

Well here is the stang I help build up. Was running 12.0's in the 1/4. Stock Engin except for 1.72 rollers, Ported plenum mouth to match the 77mm Pro-M MAssair sensor and throtle body. TT Full Length headers, custom Off Road pipes, 2 chamber Flow Master. 4:10 gears, 8.5" Good Years, Centerforce Clutch and Pressure plate, HD Rear Upper control Arms, South Side lower control Arms, no bushing, Rear mounted battery, car was gutted for racing weight, Super short Belt ( think Alt and water pump ). HD Drive shaft, HD T5 ( what a joke ).

That car had some bite, problem was we didnt get the 90/10 front struts in, or the sub frame connectors done. It would load teh tires then unload and spin the hook up and run like a scalded rabbit. We were seeing 1.60 60' times with it pulling the tires up clean. If we had finsihed the front suspention it would have been in the 11.90's easy. That cars setup was good for 1.54 60's on the same car set up.

As a matter of fact that picture is of a 2000 Cobra R. The fastest Mustang ever produced. Unfortunately it will not be the fastest for long. The stock 2003 Cobra will have 5 more horespower (390) and has already run 12.50's on street tires in the 1/4. Maybe your Aunt got a V-6?

As far as making to many cars. I am rather glad they own Jaguar, Austin Martin, Land Rover, Volvo, and the original line up as opposed to GEO.:D

..."autos" as in automatics, not cars. Although their quality control has went to **** w/ mass production. Besides, the cobra still is the weakest muscle car.

aren't the 02s and 03s blown?

snakestang

Yes the 03's will be blown. They will retain the 4.6 DOHC motor only this one will be iron instead of aluminum. It will use the same blower that is on the Lightning. Price is a tad on the high side 35,000.00 though.
