By industry estimates, paintball is now the third most popular extreme sport in the country, behind in-line skating and skateboarding. Almost 9 million people played it at least once in 2002.

Those numbers are really worthless, except to let folks brag…… Be honest, all you had to do is play ONCE. How do we rate against eating pie? ;)

actually its favored against us. inline skating has about 30 million or so but they start counting at age 5. Since in most places you can't play till 10 or 12 we have the disadvantage. It was in a APG about a year ago.

I hope they mean extreme by the context of "differnt". Casue in all honesty, to me an extreme sport = higher possibilly of extreme injury and/or death. Surfing is extreme. Paintball is "safe" remember...

This is an important issue. Paintball players seem to want to promote how “extreme” the sort is, yet then turn around and tout how “safe” it is. You really can’t be too extreme if you are one of the safest sports out there. ;) But then again, I don’t consider rollerblading an “extreme” sport either unless they are doing all tricks and stuff… and we all know most folks don’t do that.

I dunno, if ur in a rush to get from stagin area to field like i was a week or so ago. You mihgt gas up b4 removing your barrel plug n hit ur trigger on ur RT pro on acident n have a balistic barrel plug fling towards ur junk. on the other hand ive only spraing my ankle about 9 times skate boarding. I value sum think higher then others. paintball far more extreme

P.S. I have switched from barrel plug to condoms after that game

well stevo, your less likeley to repeat shooting your junk than hurting your ankle a tenth time. For sure.

Paintball, an extreme sport, I don't think so! Last time I checked it wasn't life threatening to participate in the sport..... What a stretch!

Until last year's SGMA Superstudy, we were classified as a shooting sport. The insurance industry still classifies us as a shooting sport. I'll take "extreme" over "shooting" any day of the week.

I like how un-PC and more accurately descriptive shooting sport is.

I play for Storm in Europe and we hate ironing.

3rd most popular "extreme" sport translates to like 35th "regular" sport right? :)

Other shooting sports are things like archery and sharpshooting and hunting. I don't think that's accurate at all.

Ultimately, I'd like to see us listed as a plain ole team sport.

I will never use the E-word again, especially not to describe paintball. Shooting sport is fine, since I'm into shooting sports, but that's not doing justice to the team element. I think Paintball should be a team sport. It's not really much different than basketball.
