ok, i need the opinion of ao on this one, cause im starting a huge battle within the marine corps out here if a grass trimmer is called a weedwacker or weedwipper.

I have always called them weed-whackers since they do not EAT weeds at all, but “whack” them down.

That would be like calling a Lawn Mower a Lawn Eater. :p

Weed Eater is a brand. Weed whacker is a nickname. They are actually Trimmers in the Sears catalogue. They are all the same though!;)

Well since lawn mowers and weedEATERS chew up the grass and shoot it out could be called eating.....:D

devildog
03-27-2004, 09:06 AM
ah but you see, a weedWACKER doesnt chew up and spit out the grass, it takes a plastic orange line and wacks the grass, never chews it, takes it in, or spits it anywhere, just knocks it over.

TransMan

Well it dont wack them either if thats the case it cuts or trims them therfor it would be a weed cutter or weed trimmer.

Weed 'Wacker' is the string trimmer based machine.

Weed 'Eater' is the chemical weed killing spray,IMO.

I bet what you call it depends on the area of the US you live in. In the South, we call "Soft drinks" "cokes." "Get me a coke" should always be followed by "What kind?". In the north, it's "soda." If you really wanted to get technical, since a lot of people use these aforementioned "lawn trimmers" to cut grass, it would be either a "grasseater" or a "grasswhacker." It could even be called a "grassslicer" or a "weedslicer." It all just depends.

BTW it's weedeater all the way.

Its a weed whacker, as previously stated it whacks the weed, it doesn't eat it.

bleachit

first of all its a weed wacker.

"In the north, it's "soda." "

in response to this, ITS POP. yes, I do live in the North.

PyRo

Pop is what gay people say. Its either soda, or you call it by the type of soda.

mcveighr

Its pop or more often the type of pop.

Ex: Can I get 8 mountain dew's please?

PyRo

lol, yeah, its definetly soda, im a northeasterner. when i got stationed in florida, the waitresses used to say, what do you want to drink? id say "coke please". and she would say, what kind.

i would just stare at her for a long time. it was finally after my friends stopped making fun of me and told me that i new. man, thats to confusing.

I'm a dirty yankee, and I call it a weedEATER. :)

Around here, referring to pop as "soda" is considered gay. Actually, one of the only people I know that calls it "soda" is also one of the only gays that I know.

And who calls every pop "coke?" Thats just plain stupid :D

PyRo

Well thats because your a bunch of hicks. Does the thing eat weeds? Stupid hicks :)

Sir_Brass

weedwhacker are those wussy grass trimmers you get at any hardware store.

A weedEATER is what I use during the summer working for the water department on the mowing crew: stands taller than I do (and I'm 6'1") when being standing on end, has a 330 cc 2 stroke engine, and takes a guage of cutting wire so heavy that a weedWHACKER can't even turn with a spool of this stuff threaded on. ;) ;) ;)

A weedEATER can cut down even small trees. A weedWHACKER whacks the weeds, but doesn't do jack and barely cuts grass. ;) ;) ;)

hardly. a Southerner is someone who is born and raised or has lived long enough to absorb the culture of a state south of the Mason Dixon line ;).

And not all of us Southerners are incestuous redneck hicks. Get rid of your sick stereotypes, then we'll talk ;).

None of the above, they are trimmers and I bring proof. The real big ones are brushcutters :)

And now i just need to know...What drives a person to make a post about Weed killing devices. i use turf for my lawns...if anything other than turf pops up, i get the neighborhood kid to kill it cause im playing paintball.i just know this. As i kid when i moved around (my dad was in the navy) everyone called it WEEDWACKER. its truly a just a piece of lawn care that trims the edges and tight spots a mower cant reach.

I really don't get the stereotypes. I know about 3 people that I would consider hicks here in Texas and I've lived here for going on 6 years.

In my landscaping experience over the past 8 years in "Orygun" it's been called the following:

weedeating
weedwhacking
greenmachine
trimming
brushcutting

2 things:

1. we had an argument about it out here in okinawa, so i just wanted to get some proof that weedwhacker is right.

2. where from norwich are you? i lived in taftvile for like 10 years
