Well guys, it's finally happened. It looks like we're in some deep [bleep]!

After current incidents occuring in paintball, it seems that the Government is stepping into our sport. The recent deaths due to tanks coming off and becoming projectiles, as well as the recent ABC report indicating about paintball safety and the increased number of ER injuries. A Bill is being brought up through the Senate that would induce a Registration Act for all of the sport of Paintball.

What does this mean to us, the paintballing community? It means that if this is indeed passed and goes through the motions. That we are now going to have to register our markers as if they were firearms, and go through safety courses like a hunters. And if you fail the training, you won't get approved to play paintball. If in the future you violate the training, say you're caught doing vandalism. Your paintballing liscense will be revoked and you won't be able to play.

All proshops and major marketing chains like Dicks and WalMart will have to comply with these regulations as well, imagine the damage to your local proshop from this?

We have to do something about this people. This has gone too far. Self regulation is the only way that we can really survive in a comfortable state, the Government doesn't know what is best for us. They are only going over the top with the media blasting we've been seeing.

Go here for more information on the whole situation. Has information on the Bill itself, how to contact your local Senators, an online petition to show our support, etc. We can't let this happen people!

It's really not something to take lightly. Just look how popular gun control is. If we all don't watch it will be reality some day.

Did you ever stop and think that that then means you wont be able to buy any paintball supplies if you are under the age of 18? Ever tried to buy a shotgun or shotgun shells without parents from a store that doesnt know you? Good luck.

Nice try, but I knew right away that 2 deaths from tanks wouldn't force the government to step in. It normally takes longer anyways.

Good One

Didn't I do this joke back int he day? :) Ahh, yes, "Gov. Jessie Ventura regulates paintball in Minnesota (http://www.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&th=a53a414a812aa56b&rnum=1)" 2001. Got superflamed for that one, considering at that moment Canada was talkign about banning all "airguns" (which was so badly worded it would have banned pneumatic nail guns, confetti cannons, and pop guns...).

Take every earth-shattering post you see on April 1 with more than a few grains of salt...

Actually no I hadn't thought about it, but it's good incentive for parents to take an active role in their children's pastimes.

I don't know about where the rest of you live, (go to packing.org to find out) but here in Virginia, you don't need a permit or safety courses to own a firearm, just pass a back ground check. Now if you want to carry concealed you need a course and permit.

Yes thankfully, in most states you do not need any liscensing to OWN firearms. CONCEALED carry of firearms in most states except vermont and alaska require permits or is illegal outright. Some states and cities require liscensing of firearms to own them.

There are tons of federal laws on guns, most of which don't make sense; it's impossible to keep up with them. If you tinker with your stuff you could easily become a felon and not know it. I have.

Just imagine the governement stepping into paintball and limiting hopper capacity, trigger pull weight, cosmetic milling (at thier discretion), oh, say, ygrips (because they feel like it) and barrels between 6 and 18 inches (nobody needs them). And if you break the rules you become a felon. As a shooter, this is my world.
