I did a carfax, the guy is the 10th owner (claimed 4th), and it has about 170,000 miles on it, not 71,000, someone rolled it back. He gave me part of my deposit back, but kept enough to pay for the auction (ebay). Its not really his fault, it was three owners back, he didn't know, but he should give me my money. I paid him for a 4 owner 70,000 mile car, and he doesn't have one.

Whats a carfax? Like a VIN check?

PyRo

Carfax is a vin check, (www.carfax.com) tells every time it was titles, stolen, damaged, etc.

There is another camaro locally that sounds good, more expesive though, perhaps ill go check that out.

Ouch. :( Sorry to hear it man, you seemed pretty excited when you found it. Did they guy have any excuse, or did he just flat out lie to you?? In any case, sounds like someon's in for some royal ***-kicking.

I don't think the guy knew, it was three owners back, so I think he was screwed too. Then again he only had it for 2k, there is a good chance that he got ripped, carfaxed it and decided to ditch it upon finding out.
I don't think he deserves an *** kicking, where does that land me? I think he deserves a rims/tires, and t-top liberation.

$65 dollars isn't too bad considering that the alternative might have been you being the owner of a pos firebird.

first of all....the carfax report should have been done before you bid on it.

i'd be happy with only losing $65 on that deal. i suppose you could contact eBay and try and get the rest back...

however, he is now screwed. Legally, he cant knowingly sell the car with 71,000miles and him being the 4th owner.

does that odometer have a 100,000 position?

I remember some Camaros that had work done on them at the chevy dealership that I worked at didn't go up that high.... I commented once that "dang, this Iroc only has 85k on it.." and the service rep goes... 'nope, 185k..."

another reason to buy cars locally...

It has the 6th number. Someone either turned it down, or more likely swapped the odometer. When I changed my dash I was amazed at how easy the odometer part came out, only takes about 2 minutes to swap it.
I re-used the old odometer though, so my milage is true :)

$4300 (got him down from $4500 he isn't too negotiable) a guy wants for a red 1992 camaro 5spd, t-tops, 305, 77,000 miles, original owner, garaged, not driven in the winter, no rust, 25k on the clutch, everything in good shape. Of course I would check this one out on carfax BEFORE going to look at it this time. I'm not sure if I want to spend that much though.

Please take Carfax reports with a grain of salt. I looked up my own car, if which I am the second owner. It was all screwed up. I have had 3 accidents that should have shown up, only 2 did. And the registration dates were all wrong, it looked as if it had never been registered by me after I bought it. The whole report was fubar.

Somtimes they don't get accident reports, and registration data untill months or years after it has occurd. Ive heard plenty of stories of cars in junkyards comming up clean with carfax. With all the stories of incedents not reported, I have never heard of incedents falsly reported. The last registration was in the guys town, the registration before that was in the town next to him (where he bought the car from), the milage was correct for the car as well. If you look at the actuall numbers it would have to be some major screw up for it to be false.

I believe its a step above the Sport coupe base model, the RS didn't show up untill 87.
I don't know what else to say about them, they had either a 2.8L 2bbl, or a 305 4bbl. The 305 had 145-155hp depending on the year. The 2.8 was 102-135 depending on the year. There might be some minor differances in apearance between them and the other cars, if your interested in one, just look at the car and see if you like it.

I am sorry to hear this Pyro. But good thing you did check on it and found out early enough. Small price to pay for knowing before you got too far into it.

I will be on the lookout for a nice Ford for you... :D
