as in a motion picture:

As long as this is LEGAL, as in a secure media server:

-or-

Do a search for the DVD Ripping and other variations of the such.

As long as it is being used for legitimate backup/PERSONAL media servers(=MANY Terabytes) it is legal.

Yes, the media sucks. If you want the full quality, you have to split the DVD into two discs. Assuming we are talking about movies, that isnt too hard to do with software, but its still a pain. I cant wait for the new DVD-R's that will have tons of space (I forgot what they were called)

DVD-Shrink to the rescue

Use to get rid of ALL but movie and the soundtrack you want. Or, keep as much as you want.

Then, you can compress(ugh) if you need to, so you can squeeze that sucker on there.

I think with the +'s and -'s and such. Not sure though as I don't burn many.

i also agree with the dvdshrink great free program

i have been using dvdxcopy and dvdxpress for a very long time as well though.

and dont worry about loss of quality from the compression it is minor IMO
