View Full Version : ULE RTP "Airhog" is an understatement...or does it need more tuning?

Ok, after firing my new ULE RTP a couple of hundred times, and then shooting around 1500 rounds...I am finding that I go through Air like crazy. I am running a Pure Energy Preset...88ci 3000psi. I go through about 500psi per filled hopper. After I hit about 900psi the gun starts coughing and I get bolt stick.

Is there anyway to improve efficiency for the gas? - I hate to have to fill up my tank after every game...and what if I actually went through 4 hoppers in 1 game? Then I would be out of air and have to refill?

Thanks for your input in advance:

Nothing you can really do about it.

The Level 10 is going to keep you from getting much below 700psi left in the tank and you will get the lack of recharge before you get that low, like you are currently experiencing.

And most people are gettin around 250-300 rounds per 1000psi or so,so your in the ballpark there as well.

Welcome to the world of the Automag. ;)

if you can, pick up a 4500psi tank.. it makes a big diffrence

At SPPLAT Attack last year, I was using a 45/45 and i was getting close to 5 pods + hopper before I had to refill.. Maybe I was just having a good day, but IMO I would say thats not too bad on efficiency. :D

i get 730 shots with my 68/3k flatline on my xvalved emag. my RTP gets about two hoppers and change to the 51/3k crossfire stubby that i have on there

That's the catch right there. Dryfiring w/o paint goes goes through a ton more air than shooting paint.

Also use a barrel w/o much porting.

Are you using the shortest LX spring? That seems to get the best efficiency.

i got a 92/4500 crossfire and it works great for me lil big and kinda expensive for a tank but it is worth it

yeah, i have the short spring in it right now

That is what I get with my Emag w/ a 45/45 Flatline.

So I am not alone. I do have the medium size spring and I my barrel has about 5 inches of porting...evil pipe...

The smallest spring will use less air because it requires less force to compress...right?

guess I will live with it. I am really wishing I spent the extra $50 for the 88ci 4500psi but oh well.
Thanks all,

What kind of barrel are you using?
Use a barrel with less porting ie. a Lapco.
It makes a big difference. You will be able to turn your velocity down and in turn increasing your air effeciency.

yeah use the smallest spring...it should let you go a little deeper into the tank...
if you get some really brittle paint, you might decide to switch back to the medium spring....but other than that you can usually use the smallest spring without worrying about breaks and you probably get an extra 100psi or so

getting a 4500psi tank was the best thing i ever did.

pony tanks are your friend. i just picked up mine for 180. 10 bucks to get filled and im set. which is kinda ironic being that all day air at the field is 10 bucks as well. o well it works when i go to the mountains for some good woodsball

WOW....I had no idea mags where so bad on air. I figured they didnt win any efficiency awards but I expected them to do better than my Spyder.

Thats why I got a different gun. I had to fill every 500 shots, with my ir3 its more like every 950 or on a 68 3000.

My E-Mag gets around 800 shots out of a 68/3000. Unless you play back that should be plenty I would think.

I switch over to a 88/4500 stub for rec so I didn't have to re-fill and I can shoot around 1500 with that.

It's not the best efficeny but that's why they've got all day air.

My E-Mag gets around 800 shots out of a 68/3000.

I get AT LEAST 800 shots out of my 68/3000.

Mine will shoot down to about 400 psi (level 10). If it sputters at 900 I'd say it's not tuned correctly. Use the short spring and try going to a larger carrier.

We'll see what my mag gets when it decides to show up... I know it's going to be a rude awakening, as I'm used to getting about 1500-1600 shots from a 68/45 with my GX-4 (Eclipse supercharger valve and rex dialer kit)...

Jerhew

out of a 68/4500 you'll still get 900-1100
that's plenty as far as im concerned....

as i've said before, as long as you can shoot as much paint as you can carry without having to get air...wheres the problem?

a 68/45 is perfect.

and if you're playing front in a tourney...a 45/45 will be plenty as well...
if you run out of air, you're not playing right. :D

and you guys with 3k tanks... dude, get with the times ;)

I have a PE 88-3000psi tank and get over 1100 shots before I have to refill. I use a 12" MS Equation barrel system. I also use the middle bolt spring and shoot at 285 fps.

I haven't gotten my tank on my mag yet, but I assume i get about 600 shots to it. I use a 68 3k cause theres no place around withen liek 2-3 hours drive that fills 4.5k. And my field can only fill to 3,000.

I just got my scuba tank last year. I'm not forking up for a 4.5k scuba tank! besides, the tank can shoot everything I carry. ;)

I am heading out to play this afternoon - I expect to shoot around 2000 rounds so I will let you know how it goes...for those interested.

I am running the mid size spring, PE 88ci 3000psi (wishing i would have forked over the $$$ for the 4500psi) and my barrell is the evil pipe.

…my barrel is the evil pipe.

Since you have an "adjustable" bore barrel, if the efficiency seems low try the next SMALLER size insert. That should increase your efficiency (Make sure to chrono after changing. You should need to reduce the velocity).
