View Full Version : What size tank should I get?

I have a 114 ci tank and it is way too big, so I'm selling it. I want to know whether I should go with a 68 or an 88 and what psi 3000, or 4500?

My local field does fill up to 4500. If some one says their tank is low pressure what does that mean? I have a Classic Automag, and tired of remote. Also I pretty much think that the different brands of tanks aren’t a real factor. I am turning 17 and I weight 150 lb. I avoid playing the back but I'm not too aggressive. What should I get?

(I'm looking at a Java tank which is well priced at the moment, but I have never heard of them)
Thanks,
Chris

:D 68ci 4500psi. By far the best size to get. I run a 68/4500 Angel Air on my hypermag and works great and isnt to big or small. Low pressure tank means it has a low pressure output. Instead of having 800 or 850 output it has 200-300 output in most cases and is used for low pressure guns. I hope that helps and answers all your questions. BTW, java tanks are made by kingman (the makers of the spyder). IDK if they are any good or not but i havnt heard anything bad.

Heres a site you might wanna check out for reviews on just about everything that has to do with paintball. http://www.pbreview.com

I'd like to recommend a 70/4500 Crossfire (HP output). I've had nothing but good luck with the crossfire regs, and the high output tank will allow you to use it on any marker out there (just use an inline reg to lower the psi if you have a LP marker).

Yeah, 70 or 71 ci are good size tanks to use to. The only prob is if you wanna use a tank cover a lot of places dont make covers for that size. Personally i think lok soks or Rhino covers are the best.

I've got a 91" 4500 tank. I think it's the perfect size for a mag. It's the same length as a 68" tank, but it's got a larger girth. Mags aren't gentle on the air and I like having the bigger tank for the increased number of shots I can get out of it. Then again, I mostly play woods ball and it can be a bit of a hike back to the fillstation

I also recomend the 68ci /45k systems out there... Not to big ( I use to use a 114 too ) ... and definaly go 4500 if you can afford it, and can get fills for it.

I shoot two of them both with Air America Set ups the Apocolypse and an Armageddon ... Little more expensive than the presents but with their warrenty and customer service don't feel bad about buying a used one... Adjustable tanks do have their advantages. Be it being able to turn it down to the min to make your mag run to save on air or if you get a RT to crank it up for rapidfire. My Apoc is orginally dated '97 and I have hydroed it 3 times now and it still works as great as the day I got her...

If you like the presets... the Crossfire is what I have heard the best things about...

Just another opinion for ya...

68/4500 is by far the best size. Holds a lot of air, and is very compact. I have a Maxflo, and its very nice; the adjustable output is a very nice feature; allows me to fine tune teh trigger reactivity and velocity. I got it used for $250.

if you get a 70 ci 4500 psi, get that and if you dont like it and want a 68ci, ill trade you mine with a dye rhino cover.

I went from a 68\3000 up to a 68\4500 and couldnt be happier. Getting more shots per fill (not sure how many more...400 maybe, just a guess). When I refill at the end of the day I always have some extra air in my tank when we get home to clean our markers which is a nice thing.

I started off with a 68/4500 tank, but I have recently switched to a 72ci/4500 stubby. I like it a lot.

Some of you recommend a 70 over a 68. The difference in that is 2.8%, not a big deal. Why you guys so keen on them? Also what about the stubby aspect of a tank which tend to be more comfortable: stubby or "non-stubby"?

Right now I'm looking at a 68 ci 4.5k crossfire because it’s cheap and well received.

Thanks
Chris

the nitroduck x-stream is a very good adjustable tank and new is only $250! It gives you an adjustable range of 200-900 psi, i have one on my setup and it works great, they come in all different sizes but of all i would say that the 68ci 4500psi is the way to go, 5 year warranty too, definately go with the nitroduck x-stream.

crossfires have a 5 year too, and if you get the 70ci stub and dont like it, im willing to trade my 68ci with rhino cover for it, i got it like 3 mounths ago, and it works perfectly!

Still haven't told me what I do with an adjustable air system. I will only use a mag, if I’m running low I'll refill, don't need to worry about RT upgrade either way. Not sure of what an adjustable system can offer for me. Also I'm buying used no matter what, in order to under cut cost and since the crossfire also has a warranty, what's there to lose?

Thanks
Chris

I would think you would want the highest available psi in the shape that feels most comfortable. Seems like a wee bit of common sense to me.

Shivers are you suggesting 4500? Because that's what I'm considering, but if you’re suggesting 5000 then I retort that my store can't fill that high.

If you used the wrong terminology and meant CI-Cubic Inches instead of PSI Pressure per Square Inch then I'm paying $50 or more for a 2.8% gain and at that amount it is frivolous.

Please clarify,
Chris

72/4500 is a good choice because it's high capacity but small size like a 45 ci tank. Instead of a drop, you can use a unimount like CP and the tank tucks tightly and comfortably. That's one appeal of the 72.

You should get what I want and that is a 45ci 5000psi because they hold alot and they are very small. I f you look in the right spot you can find them cheap.

If my field can't fill up 5000 then getting a tank that can go that high is useless.

What type of game do you play? Do you play at a field, or do you play woods/recball as well? If you have to go out and use one fill for the whole day, you may want to consider a 91/88.

Do you plan on using a drop? If not, I wouldnt look for anything bigger than a 68/45. If you are going to use a drop, your options are limitless, minus maybe eliminating a 45/45 or 47/3000

I definetaly would say get a 4500.

I personally would buy a 72/45 if i was buying a new tank, due to my marker setup, and the fact that I play back, however, my mid/front guys use 68/45's and one uses a 45/45.

Does your mag have an RT/X valve in it? WIll you get one in the future? This is another factor for you. If you want the capability of bounce/rapidfire/reactive then you will want an adjustable tank.
Emags are suggested to have an adjustable tank, or high input, to have the capability for higher rates of fire and an easier reset for the sear/solenoid.

A high pressure tank sends between 750 - 850 to your marker, and a low pressure typically sends 400-500 psi to your marker. Adjustables may have a high or low pressure range, IE they work better for say 100-500psi, or 500-1000 psi.

I love the 3 crossfires i've had, and I had fill nipple problems on a PE tank. I currently have a Centerflag, which, for the use I have through it, has been alright. My most recent crossfire was extremely consistant with my Speed Demon.
